Edna B. Burks, 88, passed away November 22, 2010. 

She was born November 13, 1922 in Cleveland County, Oklahoma.  She graduated from Norman High School, Norman, OK in 1939.  She married Herman Royal Burks December 23, 1939 in Moore, OK.  She was busy as a homemaker until going to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator in 1944.  She later became a customer service representative and held that position until 1954.  She and her husband Herman opened a service station in 1948 and later built a new service station and motel north of Norman on State Highway 77.  They were there until I-35 was constructed 11 years later. 

She is survived by her daughter Linda Gunning and husband Tom of Oklahoma City, OK; her son John Burks and wife Candy of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Mike Gunning and his wife Vicki of Flower Mound, TX, Alan Gunning and his wife Aimee of Hoover, AL, Bryan Burks of Oklahoma City, OK, Greg Burks and his wife Julie of Yukon, OK, Kevin Burks of Yukon, OK, Kay Hill and her husband David of Roseville, CA, Shelley Hopper and her husband Kevin of Norman, OK, Diana Fletcher and her husband Patrick of Norman, OK; great   grandchildren Ryan Gunning of Flower Mound TX, Grant and Ally Gunning of Hoover, AL, Elijah Burks of Yukon, OK, Eve Hill of Roseville, CA, Fletcher and Ryan Hopper and Isabella Fletcher of Norman, OK.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman in 2009, her parents John and Theo Upchurch and her brother William Upchurch.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, OK under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, OK.
