Mabel Marie Thompson age 99 of Lexington, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Lexington Nursing Home. Mabel was born September 4, 1914 north of Lexington in the Slaughterville community. She was the oldest of four daughters born to John Eli Holcomb and Minnie (Armstrong) Holcomb. Mabel grew up a farm girl living in the Slaughterville community. She graduated from Noble High School with the class of 1933. That same month she married the love of her life, James Frank Thompson. They were married on May 21, 1933 in Noble. Together they raised two sons, James Kenneth and Keith Lee. Mabel lived most all of her married life in the Lexington Community. For many years she worked tirelessly with her husband James Frank on the farm, working in the cotton and wheat fields. After her sons were grown, she went to work for the University of Oklahoma in the Cafeteria, where she later retired. Mabel was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years. She also was active with the Lexington Rural Aid Club, where she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Mabel loved being outdoors and always had a garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved to cook and bake for her family and church. When her grandchildren were growing up she enjoyed babysitting and keeping them during the summer months. Because of her failing health she had been a resident of the Lexington Nursing Home for the past nine years. Mabel will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by: Husband, James Frank Thompson on Dec. 8, 1975; Son, James Kenneth Thompson in 1986; Two sisters, Johnie Moses and Susie Burns;

She is survived by: One son, Keith Thompson and wife Cathy of Moore; One sister, Mary Jane Atkerson of Noble; Four grandchildren, Randy Thompson of Blanchard, Dr. Debbie Madaj and husband Dr. Tom Madaj of Tulsa, Kelli Salser and husband Chuck of Moore, Cindi Thompson of Moore; 8 great grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew, Christopher, Patrick, Michael, Jaycie, Wade and Kimberlie; Also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm Friday at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
