Troy Lee Little Axe, Sr., 79, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019 at his home.

He was born November 5, 1939 to John and Lillian (Sloan) Little Axe in the Hog Creek area around Norman, Oklahoma.

Troy was raised in Little Axe and attended South Gale Elementary School. He attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas where he earned his degree as a certified machinist in 1957. He has been a resident of Bartlesville since 1973.

He married JoAnne Kitchkommi on December 2, 1962 in Topeka, Kansas. Troy worked for American Indian Enterprises in Kansas City, KS, Barwest, Inc. in Bartlesville and Indian Coating's, Inc. in Bartlesville where he retired. He was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. Troy was a very fluent Native Absentee Shawnee Tribal speaker and traditionalist; who was also willing to share his knowledge. He was a member of the American Indian Activities Club in Kansas City, Indian Club at Benjamin Stables in Kansas. Troy enjoyed Pow-wows, Stomp Dances and was the coordinator for the OU stomp dances for many years along with James Squirrel. He was heavily involved in Operation Eagle Program as dance instructor and coordinator and helped coordinate the past Indian Summer Pow-wow in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Little Axe; 2 brothers, Floyd Little Axe and Jerry Ray Little Axe; and sister, Delores Johnson.

Troy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Anne Little Axe of the home; daughter, Lisa Little Axe and Garry Canard of Bartlesville, OK; sons, Troy Little Axe, Jr. and Claudia Tyner Little Axe of Miami, OK and Dennis and Quannah Little Axe of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Troy Lee Little Axe III, William, Claude, Jamison, Waskeh, Nawnee and Geramey Cable, Tara and Luis; great-grandchildren, Shug, Monte and E.J.; sisters, Glenda Sullivan, Wanda Tiger, Carolyn and Keith Sadongei, Marilyn Little Axe and Sabrina Little Axe; brothers, Jerry James Little Axe and Barbara, Danny Little Axe and Georgia, and John Al Little Axe; and numerous extended family and friends.

Tribal Rites were held Monday evening, October 7, 2019 at Brendle Corner with George Blanchard officiating. Burial was Tuesday morning, October 8, 2019 at Little Axe Family Cemetery in Norman, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
