John Lamb, age 99 of Purcell, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017, in San Ramon, California.

John Andrew Lamb was born August 2, 1917 in Chanute, KS, the 3rd of 5 children born to John Andrew Lamb Sr. and Violet Pearl (Kilby) Lamb. He was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell Schools from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1935. John then attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, before answering the call the serve his country. John joined the United States Army, and later in the Coast Guard during World War II. While enlisted, he met and married Celia Faulkner in San Rafael, California and had the first of three daughters, Julie. After the war, the family returned to Oklahoma where John worked for Downtown Chevrolet, in Oklahoma City and had two more daughters, Donna and Lydia. John loved the Lord and served faithfully, and surrendered to preach in the Southern Baptist Denomination. He had a genuine passion for the Word of God and read the Bible in its entirety many times. John traveled mainly through Arizona and California, planting churches and working as a supply pastor where God would lead him. John returned to school, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Fresno State University. John worked as a parts manager for a Chevrolet dealership for a time, before taking a teaching position in Handford, CA area, where he taught 7th and 8th Grade. John reacquainted with Elnora (Harryman) Brewer while at a class reunion in Purcell. They married in 1974 and made their home in Handford, CA until 1997 when they moved home to Purcell. He was a prayer warrior and prayed daily for his family and friends. John was truly a man who always did what was “right”. He was a man of his word and his word was good!

He was preceded in death by: His wife, Elnora Lamb; His daughter, Julie Lamb; Parents, John Sr. and Violet Lamb; 2 sisters, Thelma Milnes Ortiz de Montellano and Joyce Goldsby and 2 brothers, Gerald and Richard Lamb.

John leaves behind: 2 daughters, Donna Stillwell and husband, Wayne, of Wayne, Ok and Lydia Gugich and husband Steve of San Ramon, CA; 4 grandchildren, Amy Stillwell of Wayne, Ok, Ethan Allen of Napa, CA, John Stillwell and wife Natasha of Purcell, and Andy Allen of California. 7 great grandchildren, Nathan, Julie, David, Maverick, Abagail, Sarah and Patience; Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
