Thomas Glenn Haswell, of Lexington, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the age of 72.

Glenn was born on May 7, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Thomas Maynard and Mary Dafnell Haswell. Glenn grew up in Moore and graduated as part of Moore High School’s 1962 class. He then continued to Central State College on a basketball scholarship and played for the Bronchos for four years. He spent many of his days with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janice Wilson. Glenn and Janice were married in Moore on June 10, 1966. Glenn returned to Moore High School as a coach and English teacher in the fall of 1966 while pursuing his Master’s degree in educational administration at the University of Oklahoma. He left Moore High School and became the head basketball coach at Chandler High School in 1970. One his proudest accomplishments as a coach was winning the Class 2A Boys State Basketball Championship in 1972. He enjoyed working with boys and teaching them the game of basketball as he taught them the game of life and life lessons. Glenn leaves a legacy of leadership in Oklahoma education as he served as a teacher, coach, and superintendent of schools for 40 years. Glenn and Janice shared 50 years of marriage during which time they had two children, Teresa Glenne’ Whisenhunt and Thomas Matthew Haswell. Glenn spent his days filled with fun times with his family. He enjoyed the hours spent in a boat with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren whether they were performing on a stage, field, or arena, or sitting in his living room telling him stories and drinking sweet tea. Glenn and Janice loved to do things together. They enjoyed many nights watching the Thunder and Saturdays tailgating for OU football with his family in their living room. Glenn was blessed to be able to spend every day with frequent visits and conversations with family whether it was working, working on the farm or in the barn, or providing those casual words of wisdom and guidance he shared with a smile and a gentle touch. Glenn was a member of Bethel Baptist church in Norman, Oklahoma.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Leroy Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Kay Haswell, of the home. His daughter, Glenne’ Whisenhunt and husband, Tim. His son, Thomas Matthew Haswell and wife, Michelle. Glenn’s life was blessed with five grandchildren, Thomas Clayton Whisenhunt, Larissa Janae Whisenhunt, Thomas Ryan Haswell, Katlynn Shyan Haswell, and Hallee Kay Haswell.
