Johnie Mae (Bunch) Smith

Funeral services for Johnie Mae Smith will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Archey Baptist Church with Brother Tim Harless officiating and burial following in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Johnie Mae Smith, of the Nelson Community passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the age of 91. Johnie Mae Smith was born June 2, 1918 in Eagletown, Oklahoma the daughter of Suel Isac and Elsie Marie (Todd) Bunch. She married Garland H. "Shorty" Smith on January 28, 1933 in Sardis, OK. Johnie Mae had lived in the Nelson Community for 83 years and was a member of the Archey Baptist Church. She moved to this area from Sardis, OK and she and her husband were in the farming business. Johnie Mae always had a large garden and a small orchard that she worked in, she would share the produce with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing the harmonica and going fishing. Johnie Mae loved spending time with her family and they love her and will miss her dearly.

Johnie Mae was preceded in death by: her husband: Garland H. "Shorty" Smith on December 26, 1978; her parents: Suel and Elsie Bunch; son: Jerry Smith; two grandsons: Johnny Trent and Cody Foster; son-in-law: Jimmy Trent; three brothers: Suel, Howard and Dale Bunch; one sister: Hazel Schultz.

Johnie Mae is survived by two sons: Rayburn Smith and wife, Glenna and Roger Smith and wife, Billye all of Soper, OK; one daughter: LaVonna Trent of Soper, OK; two sisters: Beatrice Brock of Holly Creek, OK and Geraldine Brinkley of Broken Bow, OK; eleven grandchildren: Brenda Smith, Karen (Smith) Griffith, Todd Smith, Sharon Long, Rhonda Epperson, Jimmy Trent, Pam Coble, Johnny Trent Jr., Debbie Smith, Randy Smith and Rodney Smith; nineteen great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
