Frankie Mae (McCasland) Herman was born on October 30, 1909 in Savanna, TN to Isaac Carroll and Minnie Bell (Tidwell) McCasland. Her father was killed in an accident and the family joined her grandfather, W C Tidwell near Soper, OK in 1914. She has called Choctaw County her home for a century. She passed into her eternal rest on May 9, 2014 at the age of 104 at her daughter's home in Springfield, MO.

Frankie and Hern Herman were married on August 23, 1931. They made their home NW of Soper and to this marriage four children were born. Mrs. Frankie, as many called her, was a retired Choctaw county schoolteacher having spent 39 years in the classroom. She loved to make a difference in the lives of young people both in the one-teacher country schools and Soper Elementary School. Her special touch included a Bible memorization plan, the Christmas programs involving every student and the community tree that gave assurance every child would receive gifts at Christmas. She also served faithfully at Archey Baptist Church where she was a teacher, church clerk and pianist for over 50 years. Serving the Lord, her family and the community was central to her life. She loved to grow a beautiful vegetable garden, prepare meals for company, be on the go. She especially loved to care for her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hern, and three sons: Charles Lee, James A., and Artie Luther, two grandsons: Charles Shawn and Cody Herman and daughter-in-law Doris Herman. Also predeceasing her were her mother and father, her stepfather, Jesse Riggs, brothers: Ancil and Ben Harden McCasland, Rembert, Emmitt Paul, and Glenn Riggs: sisters Mary Barber, Addine Garrett, and Joyce Roebuck.

She is survived by her brother, Pete Riggs, her daughter Mary Elizabeth Herman, daughter-in-law Patricia Herman, grandchildren Brian (Alice) Herman, Michael Herman, Randall Herman, Ladonna (Alex) Arredondo, David (Shannon) Herman, Shanna (Larry) Burton; great grandchildren Paige Covington, Amanda Herman, Cheyenne Herman, Zachary Covington, Chas Maynard, Callie Herman, Matthew Herman, Tanner Herman and one great great-grandson Kasen Adams. She is also survived by a host of dearly loved nephews, nieces, extended family, former students and friends. Some special friends helped to make her last years more enjoyable. Among those are Mary Lou, Donna, Ellen, Emogene, Glenda and Elizabeth Marie of Springfield as well as Doug and Agnes, Norma and JD, Louise and Wayne, the people of Archey Baptist Church, her neighbors and the ladies at Linda's Beauty Shop of Soper. Thank you for all you did to make her life so rich and filled with love.

Services are under the direction of Prater Lampton Mills Funeral Home of Hugo, OK with visitation being held at the funeral home on Monday, May 12 from 6 to 8 PM and funeral services being held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13 at the Archey Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Harless and Rev. Colby Bryant officiating.

A family visitation and meal will be held at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Sugar Creek Cemetery.
