Funeral services for Evalena Benton will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Chappele officiating and burial following in Springs Chapel Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Evalena Benton, of Hugo, died Sunday, May 14, 2009 in Hugo, OK at the age of 85. Evalena Benton was born July 7, 1923 in Gay, Oklahoma, the daughter of D.W. and Lela Mae (Barnes) Abney. She had lived in this area most of her life. She married Fowler Nabors in 1946 in Hugo, OK, and he preceded her in death in 1989; she later married Leon Benton in 1996 in Hugo, OK. She worked picking up pecans and picking cotton. Evalena loved to fish, sew and do handy work. She also loved babysitting her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren: Lloyd Ward and Terry Ward; two infant great-grandchildren; Katie Sue Ward, and Kloey Conley.

Evalena is survived by her husband: Leon Benton of Hugo, OK; one daughter: Mary Ann Ward of Powderly, TX; six brothers: J.D. Abney of California, J.C. Abney of Ardmore, OK, J.R. Abney of Idabel, OK, Leo Abney of Arkansas, Ed Abney of Waco, TX, James Abney of Georgia; five sisters: Dorothy Hitchcock of Sherman, TX, Janice Boyd of Rattan, OK, Velma Lou Sangster, Lou Hardaway, and Jean Abney all of Hugo, OK; four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
