Funeral services for M.D. Pierce will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Victory Life Church in Boswell, OK with Bro. Jan Lee officiating and burial at Restland Cemetery in Boswell, OK.
M.D. passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Boswell, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. M.D. was born July 1, 1919 in Linden, Texas, the son of Sam and Lou (Larkins) Pierce. He came across the Red River in 1921 from Texas with his parents in a horse drawn wagon to Oklahoma. M.D. served his country in the United States Army during WWII in Japan, also working in a 3C (Civil Conservation Corp) Camp.
He married Mary Jo Smith on September 18, 1942 in Boswell, OK and they moved to Le Mesa, TX where he worked in a wholesale store. M.D operated a dairy in Pampa, TX for a couple years, then moving to Oklahoma City, OK where he worked W.W. Steel for 15 years. He and Mary Jo moved back to Boswell, OK in 1968 where he owned and operated a cafe and store. M.D. was a rancher who was known for his big gardens. He was a member of the Baptist faith and of the Masons. M.D. always enjoyed going the coffee shops every morning. He truly loved his boy and “kids” ¯(grandchildren).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lou Pierce, six brothers, Tom Pendergrass, David Pierce, Dee Pierce, James Pierce, Joe Pierce and Le Roy Pierce.
M.D. is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Pierce of the home; one son, Jerry Don Pierce and wife Carolyn of Boswell, OK; five grandchildren, Janelle Pierce, Kari Pierce and Joe Pierce all of Durant, OK, Michael Pierce of Boswell, OK and Christy Ellington of Dry Prong, LA; seven great-grandchildren, Dakota and MaKayla Pierce of Blue, OK, Jona Matlock and Asa Pierce of Durant, OK Amber, B.J. and Joshua Ellington of Dry Prong, LA; three brothers, Elmer Pierce and Pat Pierce both of Boswell, OK and Sam Pierce of McCloud, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 21, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Prater Lampton Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.
