George Wayne Robison

Funeral services for George Wayne Robison will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel, with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. George passed away Friday, January 8, 2016, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 85.

George Wayne Robison was born December 28, 1930, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of George Washington and Essie (Spring) Robison. The family returned to Hugo when George was a baby and he lived in the Hugo area the rest of his life. In 1947, at the age 17-1/2, George joined Company “F” – 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division in the Hugo National Guard. On September 1, 1950, his unit was mobilized for active duty. He was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana for 8 months, then to Japan for 9 months of advanced combat training. From Japan, George’s Company F was sent to the front lines of the Korean War, where he served for 6 months. Upon returning to Hugo, he continued in the Army National Guard as a full time employee for 10 years. George retired from the military as Sergeant Major after a total of 38 years and 9 months of service. George married Sarah Lavella Burton on December 2, 1954, in Hugo, OK. He worked for the State of Oklahoma, in the local Employment office, for 20 years, eventually promoted to manager. George also worked as manager of the Erie Theater and Circus Drive-in in Hugo. George was very proud to be a Choctaw Indian, and served on the Housing Authority, and in the Choctaw Color Guard. He was President of the Hugo Chamber of Commerce in 1985. He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a lay leader and speaker at numerous churches in the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Essie Robison.

George is survived by his wife, Lavella (Betty) of the home; one son, Michael Robison and wife, Kim, of Valliant, OK; one daughter, Kathy D. Reeder and husband, Kevin, of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren, Drew Robison and wife, Katie, of Midland, TX; Brianne Johnson and husband, Jeremiah, of Shawnee, OK; Sky Rogers and husband, Chuck, of Stillwater, OK; Cameron Robison of Norman, OK; Cha’ Hutchison and husband, Wyatt, of Tulsa, OK; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Bob Wallace, of Lovington, NM; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in Prater-Lampton Chapel. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com.
