JOHN PHILIP JOHNSON, son of John Philip and Mary 'Harral' Johnson, was born in Weakley County, Tennessee on January 9, 1834. On January 4, 1860, in Weakley County, he married Eliza Jane Reddick, daughter of Lewis Washington and Susan 'Groom' Reddick.
Soon after their marriage, John and Eliza moved to Arkansas where their first two children were born. Around 1866 they returned to Weakley County, Tennessee, then back to Arkansas about 1871. In 1875 they migrated to Bowie County, Texas, and the 1900 census places them in Lamar County, Texas.
John Philip and Eliza Jane had eight children. They are: Washington P. born 1861, died 1961; Wiley Elijah, born 1862, died 1934; James W., born 1866, died 1936; Charles P., born 1868, died 1953; Mary S., born 1869; M.J., born 1872; W.E., born 1874; C.E., born 1878.
Sometime before 1910 John and Eliza moved to Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. John Philip died there on February 15, 1910 and Eliza Jane died there on December 3, 1916. They are buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Oklahoma.
