Rose Mae (Deatherage) Ferrier, 100, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born March 9, 1914 in Hope, Arkansas, the only child of Frank Odell Deatherage and Cartha Campbell Deatherage. A published poet, Rose loved writing, quilting, Oklahoma Sooner football and the companionship of her family and many friends.

She moved to Hugo, Oklahoma, when her father began a 47-year career as fireman/engineer for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad.

Rose graduated from Hugo High School in 1932. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University for three years. In 1965, she received a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from the University of Oklahoma.

When Rose was a freshman in high school, she met Leon Ferrier. They dated for seven years and were married June 9, 1935, in Hugo. They were married 63 years before her husband passed away in 1998.

Rose was a beautician for many years in Hugo. She worked also for the Department of Human Services before retiring after 15 years.

Rose and Leon enjoyed camping on the beautiful Hugo Lake after their retirement. They were active in the First Christian Church of Hugo.

In 1999, Rose moved to Norman. She was an active member of Christian Women’s Fellowship at First Christian Church, the Norman Galaxy of Writers and the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc. Rose won several poetry awards in contests, and her poetry was published in Broomweed Journal. Rose was known for her bright smile, quick wit and caring attitude for others.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Sara Davis, son, Robert Ferrier, and his wife, Marsha Eddins Ferrier, all of Norman, OK; granddaughter, Jan Davis and her husband, John (Skip) Allen, of Norman, OK; grandson, Jay Davis, his wife, Virginia Thompson and their sons, Bob and Connor, of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Kristin Ferrier, and husband, Jeff Blankenbiller, of Oklahoma City, OK.

A memorial service will be held at the Pavilion of Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.

A memorial service will also be held at the First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster, Norman, OK 73069 on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
