Graveside services for Mary Ida Duncan will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Pastor Skip Perkins officiating. Mary passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 90.

Mary Ida Duncan was born April 14, 1921 in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Fred and Elsie (Keylon) Childers. She had lived in Hugo, OK from 1921 to 1942, then moved to Inglewood, CA from 1942 to 1980, then returned back to Hugo in 1980. Mary married Cecil Duncan in Hugo, OK. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesley Methodist Church and the Southside Baptist Church in Hugo, OK. She had worked for Goodyear Rubber Company in California in the 1940's, and Frito (Lay) Company in the 1950's. In the 1960s, Mary completed her GED and a Certified Nursing Assistant Program. She was a member of the Eastern Star in California, and Tops in Hugo, OK. Mary was a loving wife, mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of four. She was an avid reader and loved to cook, garden and travel. Some of her favorite memories were of international travel and road trips with her dear friend, Bernice. Mary was active in her churches and efforts to prevent abuse of women.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Duncan; and one son, Larry Duncan.

Mary is survived by daughter, Carole Duncan-Roitman of Denver, CO; son, James Duncan of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Dawn Marie Duncan of Hugo, OK, Sonny Duncan of Plumerville, Arkansas, Bryan Duncan of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Jennifer Brasch of Ladera Ranch CA, Julia and Gabriel Duncan-Roitman, both of Brooklyn, New York; great-grandchildren, Sunny Carnley, Avery and Drew Brasch, and Jonah Duncan.

The family requests donations made in Mary Ida Duncan's name to the Endowment Fund for the Choctaw County Library Inc., at this address: 703 E. Jackson, Hugo, OK 74743.
