Funeral services for Ruth E. Baker will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Victory Life Church in Hugo, OK with Pastor Tim Harless and Tom Combs-Francis officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Ruth passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Soper, OK, at the age of 84.

Ruth Elizabeth Baker was born January 8, 1932, to Wilson Nathaniel and Mary K. (Robinson) Griggs in Soper, OK. She had lived in this area all of her life and was a member of the Soper United Methodist Church. She married Roy Baker, fondly known as "Doc" on February 26, 1949, in Paris, TX. Ruth loved the Lord Jesus and was devoted to her church as well as studying and reading the Bible, having read it cover to cover more than 20 times. Ruth worked as a postmaster for the United States Postal Service until she retired. Ruth was an avid artist, loved photography, was active in the Nelson and Us Club, the Soper Literary Club, the Choctaw Co. Arts Council and Art Club in Paris, TX and the Woman’s Auxiliary at Choctaw Memorial Hospital for 40 years. Ruth was very proud of her Choctaw heritage and loved going to eat with “The Choctaws” at Hugo. She was active and supported the Soper Senior Citizens Center. But even with all these activities, she was most excited when she got to talk with all of her grandchildren!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Mary K. Griggs; her husband, "Doc" Baker; and one brother, Junior Griggs.

Ruth is survived by two children, Janie Baker of Soper, OK and Terry Baker and wife, Deanna, of Soper, OK; grandchildren, Nick, Tyler and Chris Baker, D.J. Jones, Charlie Stacy, Blake Stacy, and Paige Stacy; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.

Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com.
