Funeral services for Alvey Ward will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Hugo, OK, with Pastor Aaron Krueger officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Blackwell, OK. Alvey passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 88.

Alvey Lee Ward was born May 7, 1922, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Luther Alvey and Ethyl Cora (Rogers) Ward. He had lived in this area for thirty-seven years after moving here from Tulsa, OK. Alvey married Christine Edge in 1994 in Hugo, OK. He had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hazel Ward in 1993; two brothers, Ramon Ward, and Frank Ward.

Alvey is survived by his wife Christine of Hugo, OK; one daughter, Janice Cooley of Edmond, OK; one son, Brian Ward of Sherman, TX; three grandchildren, Emma Lee Krueger and husband Aaron of Mustang, OK, Valerie Reese and husband Matt of Edmond, OK, and Lacy Waugh and husband Bryce of Piedmont, OK; one great-grandchild: Kennedy Krueger of Mustang, OK; one sister, Rose Booker of Owensboro, KY.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 17, 2011, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo, OK.
