Funeral services for Ruth Augusta (Criddle) Sutherland will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Cayton and Kyle Cummings officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday November 9, 2009 at the Row Cemetery in Colcord, Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. Ruth died in Hugo, OK on November 4, 2009 at the age of 88.

Ruth was born December 28, 1920 in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi the daughter of Charles and Duette (Williams) Criddle.

Ruth married Charles Sutherland on January 14, 1939 in Mississippi. She moved here 27 years ago from Colcord, OK and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Ruth was known to be tough as nails and stubborn as a mule. She enjoyed the outdoors fishing and deer hunting when she was younger. She enjoyed cooking, crotchet, sewing, and quilting. Ruth was an avid bird watcher, loved to pick up pecans as well as pick cotton in the early years. She was always checking on neighbors and friends to be sure they were alright.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: Duette & Charles Criddle; her husband: Charles, W. Sutherland; grandson: Joseph A. Dixon; Son-in-Law: Kenneth Rhodes; special friends: Owen DeLozier and Bill Marcum.

Ruth is survived by three sons: Charles L. Sutherland and wife Ruth of Sanford, NC, Richard Sutherland and wife Wanda of Hugo, OK, David Sutherland of Aurora, CO; two daughters: Jackie Sue Rhodes of Waxhaw, NC, Ramona Sutherland of Hugo, OK; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; one niece: Ruth Elaine Burandt of Longview, TX.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 6, 2009 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
