Memorial services for Hope Rosenbum will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Payne officiating. Hope passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 97.
Hope Rosenbum was born November 10, 1913, in Bounds Community, near Powderly, TX, the daughter of Silas Ples and Mattie (Bounds) Frederick. Her family moved to Pine Springs, near Darwin, OK in 1917. Her mother taught in a one room school house in this community. The Moyers School then consolidated with the small schools, and they moved to the Moyers community. They remained there until all of the Frederick children had graduated from high school including Hope, in 1932. They didn’t have a music teacher at the Moyers School, and they asked Hope to play the piano for the school. She played for the last three years she attended high school. She commented that they paid her "by letting her graduate"¯. Hope also played for the community churches for several years.
Hope married William Echols Rosenbum, on August 17, 1936 Coalgate, OK. They moved to Hugo, OK to live, where he owned and operated the Rosenbum Cotton Gin Business, until 1967. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She worked in the cotton gin helping wherever she was needed. She prepared the government loan applications for the farmers, their cotton could then be sold. She also worked at the scales in the office, as the cotton was brought to the gin in trailers and weighed before it could be ginned. She had a great love for her home and yard, one of her hobbies is working in the yard. She loved to be as near the Lord’s Creations as possible. When she was indoors, she enjoyed sewing, making her clothes, knitting, and crocheting. She made the drapes and curtains which hang in her home. She also was accomplished at upholstery. She has covered several pieces of furniture, with material she chose. She joined the church at a very young age. She has been a private person with religion during her lifetime. Her pride and joy of her handwork she created is the cross stitch of the twenty-third psalms. This proudly hangs in her bedroom. She has had a “Bumpy”¯ road, she recalled in her lifetime, filled with efficient surgeons, a strong faith, and a lot of prayer. If these strengths had not been with her she would not have made it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Echols in 1991; one sister, Mildred Cobb; twin brothers, Maurice and Horace Frederick and a younger brother, Gordon P. Frederick.
Hope is survived by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Frederick of Moyers, OK and Lois Frederick of Lenexa, KS; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Wayne Kerby and wife, Becky and family of Paris, TX, Margie Bell of Paris, TX and Phillip Payne and wife, Sally of Paris, TX.
