Funeral services for Shirley "Hemingway" Buck will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel of Hugo, Oklahoma with Rev. Stacey Smith officiating and burial following in Albion Cemetery in Negley, TX.

Shirley passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at her home in Hugo, OK at the age of 72 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Shirley was born November 16, 1937 in Annona, TX the daughter of Homer and Lorene (Cunningham) Chesshire. She was raised in Red River County, Texas. She married George Hemingway in Choctaw County on November 23, 1958, lived in Red River County, and had seven wild and crazy kids.

She married Robert C. Buck Jr. in Rattan, OK on July 10, 1981 and they have made their home in this area for the past 28 years. Shirley worked as a dispatcher for Cummings Construction Company for many years. She loved hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. Her daughter said she worked harder than any man she had ever known. In addition her family reports that she was the greatest cook in the world. In fact, if she was hungry, you were fixin to take part in a feast fit for a king.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Mohanna Kay Hemingway; two sons: Dusty Hemingway and Chet Janes; two sisters: Mary Stansbury and Minnie Jones; one brother: Oba Chesshire.

Shirley is survived by her husband: Robert Buck of the home; two sons: Marshall Hemingway of Paris, TX, and Rusty & Lydia Hemingway of Rattan, OK; two step-sons: David Ray & Dana Buck of Hugo, OK and Michael of Ft. Towson, OK; two daughters: Lori & J.B. Collins of Lake Creek, TX, and Kimberly & Bryan Jackson of Ashdown, AR; four sisters: Ruthie & Rusty Prince of Lydia, LA, Linda & Charles Ardoin of Carterville, GA, Barbara & Lou Pichoff of Franklin, LA, Georgia Foster & Mark Mathis of Graham, TX; two brothers: Homer Chesshire of Quinlan TX, Jerry Chesshire of St. Gabriel, LA: twenty-three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
