Funeral services for Chester Ralph Merritt will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ft. Towson Church of Christ with Jim Jones officiating and burial following in the Ft. Towson Cemetery. Chester passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in Claremore, Oklahoma, at the age of 91.

Chester Ralph Merritt was born August 26, 1922, in Boswell, OK, the son of Chester Arthur Merritt and Ida Perlina Burris Merritt. He married Bertha Pearline Tate on September 17, 1946, in DeQueen, AR. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. After completing his service in the Navy during World War II, Chester began attending the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Chester worked for Public Service Company of Oklahoma as an electrical engineer for 33 years until retiring and returning to Ft. Towson 1983. In his later years, Chester was President of the Ft. Towson Cemetery Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Janie, Orpah and Ruby; his brother Wesley; and his wife, Bertha Pearline Merritt in 1998.

Chester is survived by his sister Laura Merritt Jones of Jackson Tennessee, son: Roger Merritt and wife Julie of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren: Courtney Merritt and Jacob Merritt both of Tulsa, OK.
