Lela "Juanita" Humphrey

WELLING, OK - Graveside services for Lela “Juanita” Humphrey will be held on Wednesday, August 29th, 2007, at 10:00 AM at Caney Cemetery, with Reverend Clayton Sellers officiating. Services are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Juanita Humphrey was born on July 21, 1919, the daughter of Maurice Edward and Maude Caroline (Sellers) Goodnight in Welling, OK. She was one of five children born to this union. On July 16th, 1937, she married the love of her life, Thurman August Humphrey at the Etta Schoolhouse. Thurman worked construction and the couple moved a great deal between California, Washington, and Utah. They finally settled in the Welling area and remained there until Juanita's death. Juanita worked as  a certified nurses aide at the Tahlequah Nursing Center. When she wasn't working, Juanita loved to stay at home and work in her garden, can home produce, sew and quilt. She loved the time she spent with her family. Juanita passed from this life on Sunday, August 26th 2007 at the age of 88 years, one month and five days. She was of the Baptist faith.

She has gone home to be with her parents, her husband Thurman who died in 1996, two brothers, Cecil and Edward “Lavern” Goodnight, and one sister Wilma Smith.

Those left to cherish the memory of a very special aunt include her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.
