James Hightower O'Dell, 88, one of Canadian county's few surviving "89ers" died June 24,at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert Modenbach, at Mustang. Born in Ray county, MO Oct 10, 1861. He came to the Yukon area in 1889 were he farmed just southwest of there.
Mr. O'Dells first wife preceded him in death, she passed in 1893. May 10, 1895 he married Rilia August Spicer, who passed in 1944. These unions brought eight children.
Survivors are five daughters Mrs. Lizzie Stewart and Mrs. Evelyn Perkins, Yukon; Mrs. Ethel Modenbach, Mustang, Mrs.Bessie Merritt and Mrs. Marie Harian, Oklahoma City and Clarence O'Dell, Longmont, CO. Also twenty-eight grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Services under the Merritt Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial in the Red Hill cemetery at Mustang. Mr. O'Dell was member of the Methodist church.
