Roy Daniel Hahn was born at home, on November 17th, 1922 in El
Reno, OK to Dan & Inez Hahn and passed away, at home, on June
13th, 2022, just a few months shy of the century mark.
The eldest of seven children, Roy grew up in El Reno surrounded
by family and friends too numerous to count. His small town
upbringing and love filled home molded him into the man we all
admired and adored. He was a really good guy, and someone you
could always count on.
Roy met his future wife one night when he saw this “little gal”
walking home in the rain and offered her a ride. Her name was
JoAnn Lemon, and Roy always said that while most lemons were
sour, he picked a “sweet” one! Roy and JoAnn were married on
June 26th, 1949 and until her death, they were inseparable. The
love and respect they had for one another was amazing and
inspiring, resulting in over 72 wonderful years together. During
these years, they were blessed with children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, Roy knew all about
hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. If Roy started something,
he finished it. If it broke, he repaired it. If they couldn’t
afford to buy it, he built it. If you needed help, he was there.
He took pride in whatever he was doing, whether it was working
in his family’s tire shop after school and summers, proudly
serving his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War
II, or his 41 years of employment at Tinker Air Force Base as an
airplane mechanic and supervisor. He was active in his church,
serving in various roles for over 60 years. After retirement he
delivered Mobile Meals and became a Channel 4 Weather Watcher,
doing both for over 20 years! He knew the value of time, the
worth of character, the power of kindness and the success of
perseverance.
Roy loved a lot of things in his 99 years…..like sports, any and
all sports. Whatever the season, he could be found watching a
game on TV or listening to a game on the radio, or doing both at
the same time! And, his kids and grandkids could count on seeing
his face in the stands at their sporting events. Roy also REALLY
loved an El Reno onion burger (no other burgers could compare!);
he loved a good joke – he would tell an outlandish story, then
laugh harder than anybody when he got you to believe it; he
loved his coffee & 5 little chocolate donuts in the morning; he
loved working in his garden – his green beans and tomatoes were
legendary; he loved hard candy – if there was a bowl of candy
when he entered a room, there was a bowl of empty wrappers when
he left the room; he loved a good nap in his recliner; a bowl of
chili – no matter the weather; bright, sunny days; grilling
steaks on Saturday night and time spent with family.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his six siblings,
son-in-law Kenneth Hogan and several brothers & sisters-in-law.
Roy leaves behind his loving family, including his three
children, Linda Hogan, Larry Hahn (wife, Lisa) and Joanie
Altendorf (husband, Andrew); seven grandchildren, Lori Hogan
Willis (husband, Rob), Emily Altendorf Neurohr (husband, Ryan),
Kevin Hogan, Sarah Altendorf Ostermann (husband, Seth), Patrick
Altendorf (wife, Katelyn), Nicholas Hahn (wife, Sanaz) and
Cooper Hahn; fourteen great-grandchildren, Cade & Cole Willis,
Cate, Charlie, Callie & Caleb Neurohr, Cameron Hogan, Sam,
Gracie & Jack Ostermann, Annie, Louise & Mary Frances Altendorf
and Rory Hahn; two nephews, Rick Lemon & David Lemon and one
niece, Donna Lemon Maxwell.
The family would like to thank Mary Foster and all the
caregivers at Hearts at Home for the abundance of tender loving
care they showed Roy. We appreciate everything you did for him
and for us! Also, our sincere gratitude to Cura-HPC for guiding
us through Roy's last days.
Roy was many things during his long life….he was a friend, a
parent, a “PawPaw”, a decorated war veteran, a mentor and a
shining example of a truly good man. As a faithful servant of
God, we know you are in a much better place, but that doesn’t
make us miss you any less. Rest in Peace. We love you so very
much.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June
18th, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, 900 Key Blvd. in
Midwest City. Arrangements are under the direction of Ford
Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Roy may be made to his
long time church home, First Presbyterian Church of Midwest
City.
