EL RENO SCHOOL STUDENT DROWNED
EL RENO, Okla., June 11

Ray E. Baggs, aged 19, was drowned about 10 o'clock last night, while swimming in Bellamy's lake, about a mile distant from this place. The young man was a good swimmer, but having remained in the water for a longer time than usual, was attacked by cramps. One of his companions, Claude Cherry, responded to his cries for help, and succeeded in keeping Bagg's head above water for some time, but the others in the crowd feared to enter the water which is 30 feet deep where the accident occurred, and Cherry was finally compelled to abandon Baggs or drown with him.

Baggs weighed about 180 and dragged Cherry under several times while he was trying to tow him to the bank. The body was not recovered until 12:30 last night. The young man was a high school student, and quite popular. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Baggs of this place.
