Lillie [Anthony] Kirkland

Spring Creek: Mrs. Lillie Kirkland died at the home of her brother Patrick Anthony, Saturday evening March 25, and was laid to rest in Spring Creek cemetery on Sunday at four o'clock.

She leaves three children, four brothers and three sisters, besides numerous other relatives to mourn her departure.

The relatives and especially the children have the sympathy of all as this leaves them orphans, their father having died several years ago.

Indigent Widow Passes away

Mrs. Lillie Kirkland of the Gracemont locality died March 23.

She had been drawing since November 1, 1915, $9 a month for her two children. Flora aged 13 years and Eliza aged 7. Mrs. Kirkland herself was 40 years of age.

The little children will have to be cared for without the continuance of this allowance. Only their widowed mother could draw that. This provision of the law, for the partial maintenance of indigent widows appeals to us as a commendable stroke of public policy.
