Binger Pioneer Dies; Funeral Is Held At School

Funeral services for Arthur Opitz, co-owner of the Opitz Gin and Elevator, Binger, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, in the Binger High school auditorium.

Dr. H.H. Lindeman, Wheatland, Wyo., a former pastor of the Binger Congregational church officiated, assisted by Rev. Guy Stone, another former pastor now at Carrier, Okla. Burial was in the Binger cemetery.

Opitz died October 4 in St. Anthony hospital at Oklahoma City, a victim of leukemia.

He was born September 26, 1902, at Murdock, Neb. While still an infant, his parents moved to the Centerville area east of Binger. They later moved into Binger where Opitz attended high school. He was a graduate of Phillips University, Enid.

He was married to Flora Marie Martin on January 29, 1924, in Oklahoma City.

A Mason, he was also a member of the Binger Congregational church and was a partner in business with his son, Fred.

He is survived by his wife of the home; the son, Fred, Binger; four brothers, Luther and Curtis, Binger; Amil of Anadarko, and Martin of Ponca City; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Opitz, Anadarko; and two grandchildren.

Music for the services was presented by the King Brothers quartet, composed of Ted, Floyd, Warren and Eugene King. They were accompanied by Mrs. Warren King.

Watonga - April 11 - Special

Oscar Opitz, 36, Operator of a flying school here, was killed and William Williams, 36, a Watonga farmer who was taking flying lessons, was critically injured when their Piper Cub plane crashed from an altitude of 200 feet a quarter of a mile east of the city.

At the Watonga hospital Wednesday night doc tyros said Williams had little chance to survive.

Two Negroes, Willis Lyons and W. M. Young, who saw the crash, told Sgt Bill Large of the state highway patrol that the plane apparently banked too sharply soon after the takeoff.

It was not know who was at the controls
