Dolores Marie [Thomasson] Newnum
June 13, 1922 ~ June 15, 2009


Funeral services for Dolores Marie [Thomasson] Newnum, 87, of Cedar Lake, were held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at Scott Baptist Church in Hinton with Rev John Wilson and Rev Phil Ratliff.

She was born June 13, 1922 to Lee J. And Violet L. [Fair] Thomasson in Binger and died Monday, June 15, 2009.

She attended school in Binger but graduated in Oklahoma City.

She met and married the love of her life, William L. "Bill" Newnum on June 18, 1941 in Binger. From this union four children were born.

She worked as a medical assistant at the Carnegie Clinic right after she and Bill married.

They both were very dedicated to each other.

She loved the Lord and was so thankful for her family. She especially enjoyed the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She taught the adult Sunday school Class for sixty years and received a plaque in recognition of her dedicated service.

She was also a child development teacher.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister caregiver and friend.

After Bill became very ill, she cared for him at their home until the Lord called him home.

She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, reading her Bible and Telling others about Jesus. She was a wonderful Christian lady, and leaves a wonderful legacy for her family.

She helped encourage others even when she herself didn't feel well.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Violet Thomasson; her husband, Bill Newnum; one son, Ronald Lee Newnum; three brothers, Smith, Wayne and Oscar Thomasson; and three sisters, Mary Lee, Ida Blanton and Zada.

She is survived by two sons, William L. Newnum Jr and wife, Karen of Louisville, Kentucky and Robert James Newnum and wife, Kathy of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Shirley Y. Johnson and husband, Larry, of Yukon; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; brother, Richard Thomasson of Prairieville, Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Burial was in the Binger Cemetery under the direction of Binger Funeral Home.
