Thelma Arnetta Turley

Thelma Arnetta Turley was born in Altus, OK, 6 April 1912 to Nancy (Nix) and Walter Scott Savage.

She died on 9 January 2006 in Chickasha, OK at age 93.

She grew up in East Texas and Altus, and graduated from Altus High School. She married W.P. "Dub" Turley, on 22 August 1928 in Altus, and moved to a farm south of Anadarko on 26 December 1929.

In 1947 they moved to the farm that she resided on until her death. The Turleys retired from a full-time dairy and farming business in 1970.

For 3 years she worked as the dietician at Friendship Manor Nursing Home. She continued to have large vegetable and flower gardens until 7 years ago when she suffered a stroke.

She was an active, faithful member of the First Baptist Church, which she joined in 1929. She taught Sunday School and participated in the various ministries of the church. She was a charter member of the Homemakers Club. She was a wonderful cook. She had many hobbies to keep her hands busy, including oil painting, writing poetry, needlework, canning her home-grown fruits and vegetables, quilt-making and bird-watching. She entered many of her home arts in the Caddo County Fair, and had numerous blue ribbons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, "Dub" in 1996, one son, Scott Turley in 2000, one grandson, Loren Turley, in 2005; and 8 brothers. Survivors include 2 daughters and husbands, Theda and Carl Steverson of Anadarko and Mona and Ancil Warren of Edmond; 2 sons and wives, Derrill and Mary Ann Turley of Chickasha and Mack and Sherry Turley of Abilene, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Patti Turley of Anadarko; one sister, Wilma King of Altus; 3 brothers, 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren.

Closed Casket Services: 1:30 PM Friday, January 13, at the First Baptist Church. Interment: Memory Lane Cemetery.
