Ida [Anderson] Thomas

Ida Anderson Thomas, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2010, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Our wonderful Mother was born on a farm in Connorville, Oklahoma, on August 10, 1912 to Ella (Frye) and M.D. Anderson.

She attended Connorville schools, Chilocco Indian School and graduated from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater in 1933 with a degree in Home Economics.

She married Spencer H. Thomas, Sr. They had two children. Her husband preceded her in death in 1963.

Ida accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while she was attending Chilocco Indian School and is now at home with Him forever.

She elected not to pursue a career but to cook in the cafeteria where her children attended school. When they graduated, she began working at Riverside Indian School and retired from there in 1984.

Ida was so proud to be a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and was so excited when she got her picture taken with the Chief, Greg Pyle.

She was an avid fan of OSU football and went to the games as long as she could. She then listened to the games on the radio. She was always ready to fight for her team!

She is survived by: her daughter: Carolyn Maxwell and husband, Dennis of Yukon, OK, two grandchildren: Billy Wells of Canton, OK, Kathy Rene' Wells of Tulsa, OK, two great grandchildren: John Wells of Moreland, Ok. and David Wells of OK City, OK, one sister: Jewell Thompson and husband, Howard of Lawton, OK, one nephew: Tommy Thompson and wife Carol and children of Anadarko, OK, one niece: Debbie Thompson of Scottsdale, AZ.

She also leaves behind her beloved pet who brought her so many wonderful memories, her dog, GoGo.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Sam and Doc; sisters, Nora and Deborah, and Myrtle; her husband, Spencer Thomas; and her son, Spencer Thomas Jr.

Family visitation will be Thursday evening, June 10th from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Smith Chapel in Anadarko, OK.

Services: 11:00 A.M.-Friday, Smith Chapel-Anadarko, OK.

Officiating: Pastor Olin Williams and Pastor Chris Finley.

Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, OK.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the Lackey Manor Nursing Center for all the loving care they gave her for almost 9 years, especially to Michelle Billings, Tina Berkhalter, Sharon Nelms, and Stephanie Bhalluin and the Good Shepard Hospice Staff, Sharon Nash, Doris Calhoun, Geri Glover and Jack.
