Joann [Morris] Smith

JOANN, 80, was born June 16, 1929, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Marion W. and Lucy (Bell) Morris.

She passed from this life on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, following a lengthy illness.

A lifetime resident of Anadarko, Joann graduated from Anadarko High School with the Class of 1947.

On November 26, 1952, she and Eugene Smith were married. She went to work at First State Bank and retired after 29 years. She was the first woman vice-president of the bank.

Before his death on January 13, 1982, she and Gene enjoyed dancing. Joann loved to read and visit with friends and family. She was a member of the Anadarko Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Anadarko Hospital Auxiliary for a few years. She enjoyed taking care of her home. In addition to her husband, Joann was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Byron Earl "Butch" Atchley, one grandson, Nick Rogers, 2 sisters, Irene Whittaker and Vera Bell, 2 brothers Jack Morris and Buddy Morris.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Rogers and husband Jimmy of Anadarko; 1 step-daughter, Linda Smith of Chandler, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, Quentin Rogers of Anadarko, Tonya Rainwater of Denver, Colorado, Jason Atchley, Bobby Atchley and Chris Atchley, all of Altus, and Misty Smith of Chandler, Arizona; numerous cousins, other relatives and many loving friends.

Memorial service, 2 p.m., Monday, Steverson Funeral Chapel.

A private interment service for the family will be in Memory Lane Cemetery.

For those wanting to sign her memorial book, the funeral home will be open from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday, and at 9 a.m. Monday.
