Donald Smith

Donald was born June 9, 1932 in Fort Cobb, OK to Fred and Velma (Clark) Smith.

The family moved to Anadarko, OK when he was very young. He grew up there and graduated from Anadarko High School in 1949.

He attended OU for a year and then enlisted in the US Air Force for four years, part of which time he spent serving in Japan.

He worked for Phillips Petroleum for a few years. He then started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He held various positions in several different cities in OK for thirty-two years and five months until his retirement in OKC on Dec. 31, 1991.

He and Marita Hill were married on Dec. 14, 1957 at The First Baptist Church in Anadarko, OK.

Donald became a deacon at the Putnam City Baptist Church on May 19, 1974, and later served as deacon at The Village Baptist Church in OKC, serving there until the time of his death.

Those he loved most and were most precious to him were God and his family. His Church and his Sunday School class also held a special place in his heart. Donald left his earthly home to enter his home in heaven on July 8, 2010. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Velma Smith.

Survivors are his wife, Marita, of the home; his daughter, Cindy Smith of OKC; his daughter, Traci Gokey and her husband Val of McLoud, OK; his grandchildren: Jill Gokey of OKC; Scott Gokey of Edmond, OK; Matt Gokey and Aaron Smith, both of McLoud; his sister, Ojuieta Simmons of Anadarko, OK; and many other relatives and friends.

Donald's family and friends are grieving for him. They will miss him every day of their lives, but they are comforted because they know someday there will be a family reunion.

Viewing will be Monday, 10am-9pm, with the family receiving guests from 6-8pm, at Mercer-Adams.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 13, 10:00am, at Village Baptist Church, with interment at 2:30pm in Anadarko, OK.
