Quàng Ngãi Vietnam June 16, 1969 November 9, 1931 ~ June 16, 1969 Albert Joseph Smith was the son of Albert Edward Smith & Lorene Verneice [Spearman] Smith Marcle, born in Anadarko, Oklahoma November 9, 1931. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1953. He enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was an Assistant Professor of military science at the Claremore Academy from 1961 - 1964. He then attended the Staff and Command College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and then served three years in Alaska. On June 16, 1969 Lieutenant Colonel Smith was declared a casualty of the Vietnam War when his base camp was overrun in Quàng Ngãi Vietnam. He had returned to Vietnam for a second tour of duty after having served a first tour in 1964-1965 He served with honor in the United States Army. Albert is survived by his wife, Marlene and two sons, Jay owen and Thielen Jay. He is remembered by the people of Oklahoma. May his positive example inspire us all.
