Leatha [Wilson] Sifford

Leatha was born March 25, 1931, in Lawton, Ok, to Samuel and Lena [Griffin] Wilson.

She passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at her home north of Gracemont.<

She grew up in the Cogar and Anadarko communities and graduated from Anadarko High School with the Class of 1951.

Leatha and Daniel J. Sifford were married on Jan 12, 1962, in Anadarko and just celebrated their 46th anniversary.

She was very active in Caddo Tribal activities and was a member of the Reservation War Dancers for three years; she was fluent in the Caddo language, and loved the Indian hymns. Her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace.

She was proud of her children and grandchildren as they took part in Caddo activities in Oklahoma and other states where they danced, sang and played drums.

Leatha made her daughters' dresses and costumes for dancing. She was a member of the Johnson-O'Malley Committee for 30 years and attended Caddo dances and Ex-POW meetings with her husband, who was a POW during the Korean War.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping and going to basketball games. She loved George Strait and had all his CDs. She liked to laugh and tease folks. She loved horses and hummingbirds. She enjoyed taking care of grandkids, and had adopted many other kids into her family.

She was a member of the Caddo Native American Church.

Leatha was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Elmer Wilson, and one sister Alpha Coats, and a niece Darla Wilson.

Survivors include her husband Daniel of the Gracemont home; children Beryl A. and husband Adrian Stands, Sr., of Gracemont, James D. Sifford and wife Deanna of Anadarko, Teddi S. and husband William James of Lawrence Kansas, John D. Sifford of the home and Rick Sifford of Huntley, Montana; One sister, Gertrude Wilson of Anadarko; brothers-in-law Henry and Samuel Sifford; eight sisters-in-law, eight grandsons, five granddaughters, three great grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews; she claimed into her family Darrell Witt, Adora Turnsplenty, Steven Edmonds, Jackie and Janice Cadotte, Jenny James, Jackie Bradley, Carol Poolaw, Pat Stands, Beth Stands, Ronald Monassey, Jr., Ambrea Murrow and the late Bobbi Carter; her closest friends were Marie Ware, Pat "Tatoe" Ware, Frankie Ware, Beverly Howard, Vermona Collins, Wilma Stands, Charlene Wright, Gayle Reedy and the late Doyle Reedy and Roberta Smith, members of the Caddo Culture Club; she had many other relatives and a wide circle of loving friends.

WAKE SERVICES: 7 PM, MONDAY, CADDO TRIBAL COMPLEX AT THE BINGER "T"

FUNERAL: 10 AM, TUESDAY, SAME PLACE

VIEWING: UNTIL 5 PM, SATURDAY, FROM 1PM UNTIL 5 PM SUNDAY AND FROM 9 AM, UNTIL 5 PM, MONDAY AT THE STEVERSON FUNERAL HOME.

BURIAL IN MEMORY LANE CEMETERY WITH TRADITIONAL CADDO RITES.
