Katherine Caroline [McClure] Hawkins

Katherine Caroline [McClure] Hawkins was the daughter of Samuel J. McClure and Mollie [Venable] McClure. She was born on16 April 1927 north of Minco, OK and died on 4 July 2009 in her Oklahoma City home after a long battle with Parkinson's.

She attended elementary school in Amber, OK, until her family moved to a farm east of Anadarko. She then attended Roach Country School and graduated from Anadarko High School, Class of 1945.

Katherine then graduated from Blackwood Davis Business College in Oklahoma City before returning to Anadarko and working for CR Anthony's as an accountant/bookkeeper.

Katherine married Lawrence O. Hawkins on 21 September 1946 in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church of Anadarko. Their first home was in Anadarko before moving to a farm near Fletcher, OK, where they lived and farmed until 1952.

Katherine was an accountant and bookkeeper. She became City Clerk for the City of Anadarko in the 1950s before joining the Anadarko Public Schools in 1961, working as the schools' payroll manager and comptroller.

She was promoted to the school district's treasurer in 1981 and retired in that position in 1989.

After retiring, she operated Accent Floral and Gift in Anadarko from 1989 until 1994.

Katherine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anadarko.

Katherine moved to Oklahoma City in 2002 to be closer to her family.

Katherine's husband Lawrence; twin sons, who died at birth; her parents, Samuel and Mollie McClure; and a sister, LaVaughn [McClure] Davis preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, James L. Hawkins of Houston, TX; two daughters: Judy J. Ratliff and her husband Bill, of Indianapolis, IN; and Jane A. Teeter of OKC; four grandchildren: Christopher Ratliff, of Atlanta, GA; Kevin Ratliff and his wife Catherine of OKC; Mollie [Teeter] Hodges and her husband Kyle of Sayre; and Erin Teeter and his wife Amy of Yukon; eight great-grandchildren: Jacob Dutton, Noah and Brock Ratliff, Chloe and Gavin Teeter, Rowdy, Kemeree, and Collin Hodges; her twin sister, Josephine [McClure] Adkisson of Escondido, CA; three brothers: G.W. McClure of Anadarko; Darrell McClure of Crowley, TX; and Samuel McClure of Calvin; a special cousin, Cubazell Savage of Anadarko; two special friends: Alice Wilson and Julie Metcalf, both of OKC, who lovingly cared for her for the last few years.

Memorial services will be held on July 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Anadarko. Viewing will be from 9 until 10 am, with closed casket services following at 10 am.

Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery south of Anadarko.
