John Phillip Compton

John Phillip Compton, 45, of Norman, died Friday, Nov. 2 of a sudden heart attack.

He was the youngest son of John Compton, AHS Class of 1952.

Graveside services at Memory Lane Cemetery will be Wednesday, conducted by Steverson Funeral Home in Anadarko.

John Phillip Compton

John Phillip Compton, 45, was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on December 30, 1961, to John L. and Shirley [Wolfenberger] Compton.

He passed from this life on Friday, November 2, 2007, at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman, Oklahoma, following a sudden illness.

Phillip moved with his family to Norman when he was 9 months old. He graduated from Norman High School, Class of 1980.

He was an outstanding athlete from a small child through high school, where he played basketball, football and baseball. He attended the University of Oklahoma for 4 years.

He worked for many years in commercial construction.

He was baptized at the New Life Baptist Church, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman.

He will be rememberd for his courage in dealing with a debilitating illness with which he struggled for many years.

He was still able to put a smile on all our faces with his sense of humor and his caring light spirit. He loved his family and will be sorely missed by all.

Phillip was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Compton, his grandparents, Jim and Elizabeth Wolfenberger, and Ruby Compton; and an uncle, J. D. Wolfenberger.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, John and JoAnna Compton, sister Karen Compton, brother Bruce Compton and his wife Macy, an aunt, Anita Plummer and husband Jerry, all of Norman; an aunt, Caol Wolfenberger of Yukon; nieces and nephews, Shelly Compton, Stacy Compton, and Joshua Compton Lewis; aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends at McKenzie Gardens and Thunderbird Clubhouse.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 7 at Memory Lane Cemetery, conducted by Steverson Funeral Home.
