Eldon Wayne Cochran

Wayne was born September 28, 1931, in Gracemont, Oklahoma, to John D. and Esther Cleo (Callaham) Cochran.

He passed from this life on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Heritage Village, Corn, Oklahoma.

Wayne graduated from Gracemont High School with the Class of 1949, then attended Draughan's Business School in Oklahoma City.

He was employed at Washita Valley Gins before being drafted into the United States Army on January 8, 1953. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, with the 146th Field Artillery Guided Missile Group. After missile training he was attached to Security. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1955.

A licensed funeral director, he began his employment at Smith Funeral Chapel on March 21, 1955, retiring in November, 1982. He was employed at Steverson Funeral Home until early last year.

Wayne and the former Joan Dudley were united in marriage on June 17, 1956 at the First Church of the Nazarene.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gracemont, and a member of the IOOF Lodge, joining in 1950. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

He had been engaged in farming and ranching since 1965. Wayne was an avid domino player, and the Cochran's enjoyed playing cards with other couples. He also enjoyed tinkering around at the farm, feeding the cattle and looking around for new calves.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Carol Jean, daughter-in-law Debbie, granddaughter Lindsey, his only brother Warren Cochran, and his only niece Linda Middleton.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joan; son Michael Cochran and his wife Susan, all of Anadarko, her son Jeremy and wife Nora Lee and their son Baxter of Pryor; also several cousins, many thoughtful neighbors and loving friends.

There will be a closed casket funeral service at 10 AM, Wednesday, January 27, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Curtis Koscheski and Larry Steverson, pastor of the Heritage Family Baptist Church in Tuttle, officating.

Viewing will be at the Steverson Funeral Home until 9 PM Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko
