Clyde M. Brown

ANADARKO - Funeral for Clyde M. Brown, 82, Anadarko, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Anadarko with Tracey Shumpert, pastor, and former pastor Chuck Gilbert officiating. Mr. Brown died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009.

Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery under direction of Steverson Funeral Home in Anadarko.

He was born April 18, 1926, in Wilburton to Clyde T. and Talitha H. McMillan Brown. He graduated from Antlers High School and attended Oklahoma A&M College, where he received an associate degree in business. He joined the U.S. Army after school and spent time stationed at White Sands, N.M.; Fort Bliss, El Paso; and Fort Sill. He married Jane Alice Atwood on June 8, 1957, in Oklahoma City. She died Aug. 5, 1998. They moved to Anadarko in 1966, when he bought the Western Auto Store. He sold the store in 1970 and went to work for Ira Hart Jr., at OTASCO. He retired in 1991.

In May of 1966, he joined the Noon Lions Club in Anadarko, where he remained a member for 43 years. He served as president of the club from 1971-72. He was Anadarko Lion of the Year in 1979. He was also a member of the Boneyard Club since 1995. Other offices and honors include: District 3-L Governor from 1994-95, District 3-L Lion of the Year 2002, Melvin Jones Fellow, District 3-L Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer 1989-90. He worked on the Credentials and Election Committees, served on the Service Foundation, the Briggs Memorial Scholarship Program, the Central and Southwest Eye Glass Recycling Program and attended the state and international Lions Club conventions every year. He also worked for the Caddo County Election Board.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He was a member of the 10:30 a.m. Coffee Shop Crew at Indian City Lanes.

Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law: Sharon and Randy Bryson, Debbie Dyer and Philip Gomez, and Carolyn Wetselline and Freddie Galindo, all of Anadarko; six grandchildren: Erin Harrelson, Shane and Kellie Wetselline, Wade Wetselline, Whitney, Macy and Jordan Galindo, all of Anadarko; two greatgrandchildren: Sydney Edmondson and Trey Harrelson, Blanchard; and many friends and relatives, including a special bowling partner, Mary Lee Daugherty, Anadarko.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call until 5 p.m today, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
