Spec Ronnie D. Beets

Full military honors and burial for Ronnie D Beets were held in Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Caddo County, Oklahoma.

He was born Feb 13, 1944 in Cyril Oklahoma and passed away October 26, 1972.

Ronnie grew up in Odessa Texas and graduated High School from Ector in 1962. He was active in sports and played end on the Eagle football team. He was also voted most likely to succeed and Mr. Congeniality by his class.

He married Merilyn Fraley in August 1962 and the couple moved to Oklahoma City. He was working there when he received his draft notice for the Marine Corps in the Spring of 1966. He decided he preferred to be in the Army and went to Odessa to join the Army.

Basic training was completed at Fort Bliss, Texas and then he volunteered for airborne training and then went to Fort Benning, Georgia where he completed his infantry AIT and parachute training. He began his tour in Vietnam in early September 1966. He was assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division where he became a squad leader. On August 13, 1967, almost two weeks before the end of his Vietnam tour, his squad was ambushed while on patrol. Ronnie took charge and was credited with keeping his squad from being overran. During the action, he was credited with killing six V.C. He was seriously wounded when a grenade landed near him and for this action, he was awarded the Silver Star.

Ronnie received a serious injury to his spine and he was paralyzed from the waist down and was almost dead, when he was medevaced. He ended up in Camp Zama, Japan and eventually stateside to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He was then sent to a Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California for spinal cord injuries.

They moved back to Odessa when he was medically retired from the Army in 1970. He had attended college at the University of Oklahoma and Odessa College following his medical retirement. They had adopted two children, a boy and a girl in 1969. He resided in Odessa until he died from complications of his wounds in Medical Center Hospital in Odessa on October 26, 1972, five years from his Vietnam service.

His name was added to The Wall in Washington D.C. in November 1986.

Edward Dean Beets Sr

Funeral services for Edward Dean Beets, Sr., 63, will be held at 10 a.m. On Wednesday, May 5 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Anadarko with the Rev. Duke Tsoodle, officiating.

He went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Anadarko.

He was born on December 13,1946 to Willard F. & Ruby [Carter] Beets in Anadarko.

He graduated from Anadarko High School in 1965, and worked as a civilian employee for the Oklahoma National Guard in Anadarko.

He later worked as an Administrator Supply Technician in Oklahoma City.

He was an active member of the Oklahoma National Guard from 1970 to 1978. In the early 1980's he worked at various oil drilling rigs around the surrounding area.

In 1983, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for three years with Layne Western Water Drilling Company, and worked in construction labor and then returned to Anadarko in 2002.<

His hobbies and pastimes include his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys and loved classic western movies.

He is survived by his companion, Evangeline Kaulaity of thirty years of the home, three sons, David Beets of Oklahoma City, Edward Beets, Jr. And wife, Brenda of Oklahoma City and Donald Beets and wife Missy of Lawton; step children: Jenna Lee Thrash of Oklahoma City, Devona M. Roulain of Purcell and Rick Vaughn Roulain of Fort Worth, Texas; brother Con Beets and wife, Cheryl of Oklahoma City; his close friend, Larry Kaulaity, Sr.; four grandchildren: Coleston Beets and Sierra Beets both of Lawton, Matthew King and Tyler Beets, both of Oklahoma City; aunt, Geraldine Lay of Oklahoma City; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He had many friends and acquaintances that loved him and loved visiting with him. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Gene Beets; uncle: Jack Beets; nephew, and Kris Beets.

Pallbearers: Larry Kaulaity, Jr., Paul "Bear" Tate, Marty Jelinek, Randall Thrash, Jim Roulain, and Joel Parton.

Honorary Pallbearers: Larry Kaulaity, Sr., James Kaulaity, Paul Tate, Sr. And Kevin Beets, Ryan Thrash, Damon Avery and Jeremy Avery.

Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
