Joe Don Allgood
December 28, 1899 ~ December 7, 1994

Joe Don Allgood was born August 1, 1935 to Joe B. and Pearl Irene [Miller] Allgood in Allen, Oklahoma, growing up in the communities of Dillard, Tussy and finally Wilson.

Joe was a member of the Wilson High School Class of 1953 and during high school, Joe began work in the oilfields and it was early 1957, while working on a Sohio seismograph crew in Caddo County that he met his future wife, Gerri.

Joe and Gerri married on June 1, 1957 in Gracemont, Oklahoma. Joe's seismograph crew moved to various places. In July 1958, their first child, Monte Joe, was born and shortly thereafter they returned to Anadarko where they would establish their home.

Joe then began work for Fairmont Foods and was affectionately known as the "the milkman"!

In November 1964, Joe and Gerri's second child, Kimberly Dawn, was born.

In the late '70's, Fairmont Foods sold out and Joe built and operated Kimberly's Restaurant in Binger where he had many friends from his time as the milkman. In 1979, Joe returned to the oilfields where he worked for various companies.

He developed many cherished friendships throughout the years and retired in October 2008.

Shortly after Joe's retirement he was diagnosed with dementia. He was blessed with many months of continuing to maintain his daily life, enjoying his time going for coffee with "his buddies," attending church and family gatherings.

In November 2010, Joe's illness significantly progressed and shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

Throughout Joe's life, he was passionate about serving his Lord and providing for his family. He loved preparing for and enjoying summer camping and trout fishing vacations in Colorado with family and friends, his fall elk hunting trips to Colorado, he loved OU sports, vintage cars, the oilfield business and spent countless hours detailing his vehicles and manicuring his lawn!

Joe leaves a legacy of living for the Lord, loving unconditionally and a work ethic rarely seen.

Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gerri of the home; his son, Monte and wife, Susan of Norman, Oklahoma; his daughter, Kim Willbanks and husband, Mike of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his grandchildren: Lindsey Allgood of Norman, Tucker Allgood of Durango, Colorado, Forrest Klein and Braden Klein both of Norman, and Rachel Shingleton and husband, Simon of Oklahoma City and his great grandson, Jude Shingleton, whom brought much joy the last 3 1/2 years and another great grandchild on the way. Joe is also survived and loved by his sister, Billie Maxine Duncan of Lake Charles, Louisiana; his nieces, Karen McMenamen of Houston, Texas and Barbara Young of Lake Charles and their families as well as numerous cousins.

Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father; his beloved mother-in-law, Josephine Hendricks in 2005; his beloved brother-in-law, Walter H. Duncan in 2009 and many other relatives.

The family would like to thank the many friends who devoted themselves to comfort us during such a difficult time. We are thankful for Integris Hospice House who poured out excellence in care, support, comfort and understanding to us all in Joe's last days. We thank God for revealing Himself to us all and providing an understanding and providing a place for Joe.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church, Anadarko, Oklahoma.

The family requests any donations to Joe's memory be made to Integris Hospice House, 13920 Quailbrook Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134.
