Adam Nightingale

Adam Nightingale Dies At Home Of His Daughter

Our father, Adam Nightengale was born March 19, 1854 in Polen, Russia. There he spent the days of his childhood with his parents.

Early in life he was converted and baptized upon the confession of his faith by Elder Tobis Unruh and united with the Mennonite church in Russia.

About 1874 he came to America with his parents and made his home in McPherson county, Kansas, where he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Koehn. To this union five children were born. The wife and two children preceded him in death.

May 13, 1888 he married Miss Lena Schultz. To this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters. Two of the children preceded him in death.

In 1889 he moved with his family from Kansas to the Chickasaw nation. In 1904 he moved to Ft. Cobb where he lived about four years and from there he moved to Alden on the farm which he bought.

July 22, 1914 his wife died and he was left a widower with seven children. He lived on his farm until 1929; since then he has lived with his children.

In 1914 he united with the Greenfield Mennonite church near Alden where he remained a faithful member until the end.

Father Nightengale was a true and faithful Christian he believed on Jesus as his personal savior and was ready to meet his god. His last words were"Jesus come, come soon." He died on Dec. 7, 1932 at 9:00 p.m. at he home of his daughter, Mrs. John Unruh, 78 years, 8 months and 17 days of age. He leaves 10 children, 54 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The loss of our dear father is his eternal gain.

Funeral services were held at the Greenfield Mennonite church Saturday by Rev. Froese, the pastor, assisted by Rev. J.W. Morris, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Alden. Interment was made in the Greenfield cemetery under the direction of Ralph E. Harvey, funeral director.

Edward A. Nightingale

Nightingale Service Held

Funeral services for Edward A. Nightingale, 82, of Carnegie were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the Carnegie Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Bob Williams, officiated.

Burial was in the Greenfield Mennonite Cemetery southeast of Carnegie.

Nightingale was born Feb. 6, 1893 in Indian Territory.

He was married to Katie Schartner in 1919. He farmed in the Carnegie-Fort Cobb area until retirement in 1976 when he moved to Carnegie.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Katie, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Velma Johnson of British Columbia, Mrs. Lola Redger of Durham, Kan., and Jo Ann Unruh of Halsted, Kan.; three sons, Elmer and Leo of Carnegie, and Vernon of Newton, Kan.; two brothers, Don of Montezuma, Kan., and John of Fort Cobb; two sisters, Dena Unruh of Carnegie and Minnie Koehn of Enid; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elmer L. Nightingale

Elmer Nightingale, 82, Carnegie, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Anadarko, Oklahoma. He was born near Carnegie, Oklahoma, August 28, 1923 to Edward and Katie [Schartner] Nightingale.

Elmer married Sophia Koehn, April 23, 1944 at Greenfield Mennonite Church, Carnegie, Oklahoma.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Elmer has lived and farmed in the Carnegie Comminity all of his life and drove a school bus for many years for Alden and Carnegie Schools. He was a member of the Greenfield Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife Sophia, of the home; two sons, DeWayne and Barbara Nightingale, Enid, OK, and Danny and Gail Nightingale, Elk City, OK; one daughter, Bonnie and husband Kenny Dyck, Corn, OK; two brothers, Leo and wife Ruthie Nightingale, Carnegie, Ok, and Vernon and wife Carol Nightingale, Fort Cobb, OK; three sisters, Velma Johnson, British Columbia, Canada, Lola Redger, Durham, KS, and Joann and husband Ivan Unruh, Butler, MO; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Orlin; and a daughter, Jeanne.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006 at the Greenfield Mennonite Church, Carnegie, OK. Pastor Shorty Unruh will officiate. Burial will be in Greenfield Mennonite Cemetery, under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie, OK.

Sophia Ruthlee [Koehn] Nightingale

Sophia Ruthlee Nightingale, 89, Corn, OK resident passed away Sunday October 13, 2013 in Weatherford, OK. Sophia was born October 15, 1923 to John and Katie [Schmidt] Koehn in Goltry, OK. At the age of five she moved to Caddo county where she lived until 2007.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a revival in 1942.

Sophia was united in marriage to Elmer Nightingale on April 23, 1944 at the Greenfield Mennonite Church south of Carnegie. She was a longtime member of Greenfield Mennonite Church and later became a member of the Harold Mennonite Church in Cordell.

Survivors include: 2 Sons Dewayne and wife Barbara Nightingale, Enid, OK, Danny and wife Gail Nightingale, Elk City, OK, 1 Daughter: Bonnie and husband Kenny Dyck, Corn, OK, 9 Grandchildren: Brian and Robyn White, Enid, OK, Michael and Kelly Noak, Enid, OK, Branden and Michelle Nightingale, Enid, OK, Ryan and Christy Vogt, Hesston, KS, Craig and Elizabeth Dyck, Skiatook, OK, Carlin and Angela Dyck, Weatherford, OK, Phillip and Stacy Payne, Manhattan, KS,Glenn and Candie Nightingale, Elk City, OK, Nick and Dana Grant, Yukon, OK, 15 Great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, 2 Brothers: Elmer Lee Koehn, Tahlequah, OK, Paul Dean Koehn and wife Judy, Harper, TX, 2 sisters: Lonetta Unruh, Mustang, OK, Nora Belle Dalke, Hesston, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, one son, Orlin, one daughter Jeannie, her parents, brother, Lloyd Koehn and sister, Edna Unruh.

Family will greet friends at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 pm., Services: 2:00 pm Thursday October 17, 2013, Harold Mennonite Church, Cordell, OK.

Interment: Greenfield Mennonite Cemetery Carnegie, OK.

Officiated by: Rev. Buck Nicholson and Rev. Eugene Thieszen. Under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie, OK.

Vernon Edward Nightingale

Vernon Nightingale, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 at his home in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma surrounded by his family. He was born on September 17th, 1931 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Edward and Katie [Shartner] Nightingale.

He grew up in the Alden Community and graduated from Alden High School.

He married Carol Keller in February 4, 1956 in Halstead, Kansas.

Vernon worked for Boeing Aircraft for 2 years before working for Guerdon's Mobile Home Factory for 17 years. He then worked for Carnegie and Fort Cobb Public Schools for 16 years before retiring and working part-time at Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb for 16 years, making sure the campus looked its best. During this time he also worked 27 years at Carnegie Farmers Co-Op Station on Saturdays.

He loved to go fishing with his cane pole and enjoyed supporting the Fort Cobb-Broxton basketball teams.

He is survived by: His wife, Carol Nightingale, of the home in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma His son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Donna Nightingale, Fort Cobb, Oklahoma His daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Bill Bellamy, Fort Cobb, Oklahoma 4 grandchildren: Brad Bellamy and his wife, Mandy; Lacy Savage and her husband, Seth; Dale Bellamy and his wife, Jenna; Melissa Nightingale 6 great-grandchildren: Blaine Bellamy, Teagan Bellamy, Gunner Savage, Denver Savage, Dru Bellamy, Bo Bellamy 2 sisters: Lola Redger, Kansas and Joann Unruh of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ed and Katie Nightingale; His son, Don "Speedy" Nightingale, two brothers, Elmer Nightingale and Leo Nightingale. One sister, Velma Johnson.

Leo L. Nightingale

CARNEGIE Funeral for Leo Nightingale, 83, Carnegie, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Greenfield Mennonite Church, Carnegie.

Mr. Nightingale died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, in Carnegie.

Interment will be at Greenfield Cemetery, Carnegie, under direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home.

He was born July 26, 1926, in Carnegie to Edward and Katie Schartner Nightingale. He married Ruthie Dalke on Nov. 12, 1950, in Carnegie. He farmed all his life. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Vicki Nightingale, Electra, Texas, and Darrell and Trisha Nightingale, Lawton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Darlene and Steve Gee, Elephant Butte, N.M., and Karen and Jesse Bellamy, Fort Cobb; eight grandsons and their spouses: Steven and Stacey Gee, Amarillo, Texas; Ryan and Gabrielle Nightingale, Fairview; Russ and Chelsea Gee, Oklahoma City; Garrod and Rachel Nightingale, Vandenberg AFB, Calif.; Chad and Andrea Nightingale, Bartlesville; Derek and Jennifer Nightingale, Tulsa; Adam Bellamy, Stillwater; and Brett Bellamy, Fort Cobb; a granddaughter and her spouse, Kari and Lafe Cruzan, Oklahoma City; nine great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Carol Nightingale, Fort Cobb; three sisters: Velma Johnson, British Columbia, Canada; Lola Redger, Durham, Kan.; and Jo Ann Unruh, Butler, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Sophia Nightingale, Corn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elmer Nightingale; and a grandson, James David Gee.

Orlin Lynn Nightingale

Orlin Lynn Nightingale was an eighth grade student in the Carnegie schools. He had attended Alden school before entering the Carnegie school system.

He was a member of the Greenfield church since June 18, 1967.

Brother of DeWayne of Enid; Danny, Bonnie and Jeanne of the home; Grandson of Mr. and Mrs. e.A. Nightingale of Carnegie, and Mrs. Katie Koehn of Enid.
