Alice Yvonne "Polly" [Morgan] Benedict
October 24, 1929 ~ September 1, 2019


Alice Yvonne [Morgan] Benedict, affectionately known as Polly, 89, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, September 1, 2019 while at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, FL.

Polly was born in Bridgeport, OK to her beloved parents, Lafayette and Edna Morgan, and will be interred in Bridgeport alongside her parents, which was her final request.v Polly attended school for ten years at Bridgeport Public Schools. After the closing of the Bridgeport High School in 1945, she attended Hinton High School where she graduated as Co-Salutatorian in 1947.

In the fall of 1947, Polly enrolled in college at Southwestern Institute of Technology, now Southwestern State College, in Weatherford, OK where she graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Polly moved to Jackson County, OK in the fall of 1950 where she taught school for thirty-five years with twenty-nine of those years at Southside School, four years at Falcon Elementary School, now Rivers Elementary, in Altus, OK, and one-half year at Friendship High School. Polly retired from teaching in 1991 when Southside School closed.

In 1952, Polly married Hoyt Benedict who was then in the US Army stationed at Camp Hanford in Richland, Washington. After Hoyt was discharged from the service in 1953, they returned to Jackson County with a baby daughter, Lori Suzann. Their son, Larry Hoyt, was born in 1956.

Polly was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, OK, a member of the FBC Elizabeth Hospitality Sunday School Class, a volunteer at the FBC Library, for over twenty years, a member of the FBC Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and served as a hostess helping the FBC for many years.

Polly was also a member of the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, a recording secretary for the Erolethian Club, a volunteer for the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Southwestern Oklahoma Republican Women Club.

Polly was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Giola Kluver, a niece, Kathy Boren, and her son, Larry.

Polly will fondly and forever be remembered by her daughter, Lori Plaut and husband, Jim, of Winter Garden, FL, with whom she lived since 2017; her three grandchildren, James and Ethan Plaut, of Winter Garden, FL, and Sarah Marshburn and husband, Rob, of Virginia; her niece, Linda Christoff and husband, Johnny, of Wichita Falls, TX; her nephew, Mark Kluver and wife, Kay, of Wichita Falls, TX.
