Lloyd Wayne Spies
Burns Fatal For Youth
FORT COBB--Funeral services for Loyd Wayne Spies, 15, Fort Cobb ninth
grade student, were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in the Fort Cobb high school auditorium with Rev. R.H. Wilson, Wichita Falls, officiating.
Loyd has been in a hospital condition since Friday, April 4, when he suffered second and third degree burns over 80 percent of his body when burning weeds in a field flashed over him. He had gone to a field near his parent's home, three miles east of Fort Cobb, with two younger boys who were visiting from Texas for a picnic lunch. Apparently a fire had been started and a gust of wind had caused flames to engulf his body.
When the news reached his parents, his father rushed him to the Anadarko hospital where he received emergency treatment. He then was taken by ambulance to the Crippled Children's hospital in Oklahoma City. Death came Sunday.
He was born September 25, 1942, at Hobart. He and his parents moved to the home near Fort Cobb in March, 1951.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Spies; his paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Spies, Mountain View; his maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Blackburn, Hobart; several uncles and aunts.
Pallbearers were chosen from the Fort Cobb freshman class. They include Ronny Robnett, Loyd Bailey, Wayne Nixon, Pens Webb, Harvey Bergdorf, Dale Lewis, Ronny Hardesty and Nickie Chlouber. |
