Urban Elza Ratliff

Funeral services for U.E. Ratliff, 88, of Fort Cobb, were Saturday, August 13, in the First Baptist church at Fort Cobb. Rev. J.C. Crabbe of Minco officiated and burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery.

Ratliff died August 11 at his home in Fort Cobb.

He was a rural mail carrier, retired after 43 years of service. He had also been a farmer and a resident of Fort Cobb since 1902.

He was born April 5, 1889, in Missouri. He married Alice Wilson December 18, 1912, in Anadarko.

Survivors include his widow of the home; four sons, Leonard Ratliff and Floyd Ratliff of Fort Cobb, Fred Ratliff of Gallup, N.M., and David Ratliff of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Mrs. Sid Van Eaton of Carnegie, Mrs. Lavada Parrish of Cordell and Mrs. Gladys Watkins of Hobart; a brother, Frank Ratliff of Fort Cobb; three sisters, Mrs. Earl McPherson of Fort Cobb, Mrs. J.R. Calvin of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. E.M. Marsh of Abilene, Tex.; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ralph P. Ratliff

Services Held For Fort Cobb Pioneer Thursday

FORT COBB--Funeral services for Ralph P. Ratliff were held at 2:30 p.m. last Thursday, at the First Baptist church with Rev. Ted Ewing officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery. A Rose Croix service was held at the church with the Fort Cobb Masons in charge. Ratliff, 68 years of age, died at his home in Fort Cobb Tuesday, September 1, after an illness of several months with a heart condition.

He was born July 20, 1891, at Goldsberry, Mo., and moved in 1902 to Fort Cobb where he had lived most of the time.

He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Surviving him are his wife of the home; three children, Ethan 'Ratliff, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Bob Johnson of Austin, Tex., and Mrs. B.R. Simmons of Erick; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Elza and Frank Ratliff of Fort Cobb; four sisters, Mrs. W.L. Lake, Oneida, N.Y., Mrs. H. E. McPherson of Fort Cobb, Mrs. J.R. Calvin, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. E.M. March, Abilene, Tex., several nephews and nieces including Mrs. Sid VanEaton, Carnegie.

Laura Cathryn Ratliff

Laura Cathryn Ratliff was the first of eight children born to Frank & Maggie [Wilson] Ratliff. She was born Oct. 10, 1923, on a farm 9 miles south of Ft. Cobb. She passed from this life June 22, 2011, after a long battle with cancer at her home in Oklahoma City where she had lived 50 years.

She started school at South Pioneer School. In 9th grade she went to Ft. Cobb High School 2 years. Moving with her family to eastern Oklahoma, she graduated high school at Adair OK. She attended Northeastern College in Tahlequah 2 years, then taught at a one-room school at Delaware. She continued her schooling in summers. She received a BS degree at Oklahoma A&M College and a Master's in Education at O.U.

She taught at Whitebead, near Pauls Valley OK, 4 years, Cement High School 12 years, and Edmond Jr. High 17 years, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 1974. In addition to teaching, she was office manager for McDowell Brothers Cap and Gown, Robinhood Farms, and parttime at JCPenney.

After retiring in 1982 she did volunteer work. She volunteered at Will Rogers Airport Visitor Center over 20 years. She was active and helped organize the Miller Neighborhood Assoc., writing the newsletter, planting flowers and shrubs, watering, and neighborhood watch. In her spare time she took up golf and met some cherished friends. She watched over her younger siblings with great care. She was a devoted aunt to her 22 nieces and nephews. She loved to travel and visited Alaska, Switzerland, Australia, and throughout the U.S. She was well read and enjoyed a variety of good literature. She like good music of all kinds and had a great sense of humor. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OEA, Miller Neighborhood Assoc., and Coffee Creek and Hefner Ladies Golf Clubs.

Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lanora Whaley, brothers-in-law Leonard Easterling and Vayden King.

She is survived by sisters Lavina Jones & husband Ed of Frisco TX, Mary Jean Easterling of Ft. Cobb OK, Frankie Conrad & husband Paul of Canyon Lake TX, Wanda King of Yukon OK, Norma Harris & husband A.C. of Hobart OK; brother Tom Ratliff & wife Sue of Ft. Cobb OK; brother-in-law Larry Whaley; 22 nieces and nephews; 55 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

James Floyd Ratliff

James Floyd Ratliff, 88, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK after an extended illness. He was born on May 26, 1928 in Fort Cobb, OK to Alice [Wilson] and Urban Elza Ratliff.

He grew up in Fort Cobb, OK and graduated from Fort Cobb High School in 1946. He went on to receive his associate's degree.

He married Patsy Ruth Smith on December 23, 1950.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. Floyd was proud to be an American and loved to show his patriotism towards the United States.

He co- owned, with his family, Ratliff's Grocery in Fort Cobb for many years. He was very civic minded and active in the community and a proud supporter of Fort Cobb before his health forced him to slow down from the things he loved.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, the VFW and Rotary.

His hobbies included golfing and hunting quail.

He is survived by: His son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Jana Ratliff, Edmond, OK, His daughter: Susan Ratliff Sawyer, Edmond, OK, Two grandsons and their wives: Matt and Amy Sawyer, Josh and Michelle Sawyer, Two great-grandchildren: Bella and Lucy Sawyer, Two sisters: Lavada Parrish, Cordell, OK and Gladys Watkins, Hobart, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patsy Ruth, his brothers; Leonard Ratliff, Fred Ratliff, David Ratliff and his sister Irene Van Eaton.

Pat [Whittaker] Ratliff

FORT COBB----Services for long time Fort Cobb resident Pat Ratliff, 75, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb with Rev. Charlie Bount officiating.

Mrs. Ratliff was born Aug. 28, 1931 in Anadarko to Leo and Irene [Smith] Whittaker and was called Home by her Lord and Savior Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 in Carnegie.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister, Marilyn Hudgeons and one brother, Jack Smith.

She was a graduate of Anadarko High School with the Class of 1949.

She married the love of her life, Floyd Ratliff, Dec. 23, 1950 in Anadarko.

From this union were born two children, Susan and Steve.

For many years she was assistant cashier for the Washita Valley Bank in Fort. cobb. Many customers would wait in line just so she could take care of their business for them.

Her greatest joy was her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

She loved going to church and telling others about Jesus. She taught the Naomi Sunday School Class for several years at the Fort Cobb Baptist Church, where she had been a long time active member. Her church family was very important to her.

She was a very kind and caring person who loved people and they loved her back. She never met a stranger.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving husband, Floyd, of the home; one daughter, Susan Sawyer of Edmond; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jana Ratliff of Edmond; two grandchildren, Matt Sawyer and his wife, Amy, of Tulsa, and Joshua Sawyer and his wife, Michelle, of Oklahoma City and her aunt, Joann Smith of Anadarko.

Burial will be in the Fort Cobb Cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home of Fort Cobb.

Oma Joyce [Tallent] Ratliff

Oma Joyce Ratliff, 81, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015. She was born on May 6, 1933 in the country outside of Anadarko, OK. She was the youngest of seven children born to Oma Myrtle [Underwood] and Mark McClure Tallent.

Joyce spent her early years going to school at Washita, OK and moved to Fort Cobb when she was in the 8th grade. She graduated from Fort Cobb High School, with 16 in her class, in 1951.

She became engaged to David Ratliff and they were married in 1952 at Paso Robles, CA where David was serving in the US Army at Camp Roberts. Joyce later joined him in Heidelburg, Germany.

After returning home she worked as Secretary to the Registrar at Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha.

David and Joyce later made their home in Fort Cobb where 3 wonderful children were born; David Mark, Laura Jo and Matt David.

Joyce attended Oklahoma University and worked at Star Manufacturing for 11 years. David and Joyce were divorced and she and the children took care of each other.

She went into the insurance business and sold insurance for over 20 years. For Joyce, her children were always first and she provided for them. They have all three grown up to be professionals. She was always very proud of them.

Joyce liked to do many things, at the top of the list was travel and she did a lot of that. She liked crafts and made some beautiful baskets. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Southern Hills Baptist Church and a Christian Women's Group.

Second only to loving and caring for her children was her love for her grandchlildren; Tana, Tara and Mason. She loved being with the kids and spent a lot of time with them. You couldn't talk to Joyce very long without hearing children and grandchildren stories. She was very proud of them.

Joyce loved looking at the sky at night and would call you up and tell you to look for something that was going on with the planets. Her wish was that her tombstone would read " I saw Halley's Comet in 1986".

She had several cats and dogs throughout her life. She always took in homeless animals. Joyce had a special connection with people and many have commented that she was like a mother to them and how much they loved her.

She is survived by her children: David Mark Ratliff of Oklahoma City, OK, Laura Jo Ratliff of Oklahoma City, OK and Matt David Ratliff and his wife, Dana, of Fulshear, Texas. Her Grandchildren: Tana Schuermann and her husband, Matt Tara D'Angelo and her husband, Jim Mason Ratliff. Her Great-Grandchildren: Joel, Abigail, Caleb and Eriana Her sister, Bernice Henderson, Fort Cobb, OK. Several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 85th and S. Penn, Oklahoma City, OK.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Cobb, OK

Services under the direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home, Fort Cobb, OK.
