Martin L. Meek

Rites Held For Retired Fort Cobb Farmer Thursday

FORT COBB--Funeral services for Martin L. Meek, retired farmer, were held at 2 p.m. last Thursday in the chapel of the Fort Cobb Funeral home. Rev. Claire Payette and Rev. Charles Hamilton were in charge. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Meek, a resident of the Fort Cobb community since 1905, died Tuesday, May 20, in an Anadarko hospital. He was born January 5, 1880, at Owensburg, Ind.

He was married to Sylvia Smothers on April 3, 1907, at Fort Cobb.

His survivors include the wife of the home; three sons, Emmett, Fort Cobb; Emerson, Hobart; and Kenneth of Midwest City; four daughters, Miss Alice Meek, Mrs. Lucy Ratliff and Mrs. Zella Hamm, all of Fort Cobb, and Mrs. Adis Champion, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and 11 grandchildren

Maggie [McGian] Meek

Fort Cobb Services Are Held Saturday For Caddo Pioneer

FORT COBB--Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Meek were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Fort Cobb Methodist church. Rev. Georg Stauffer, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Meek, a resident of Caddo county since 1905, died Wednesday afternoon, July 4, at her home at Fort Cobb. She had been in ill health for several weeks.

Maggie McGian was born April 5, 1885 in Searsboro, Iowa, and was married more than 50 years ago to Mitch Meek at Watonga. Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors are three sons, Marvin and Wilbert of Fort Cobb, and Willard of Conway Springs, Kans.; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Cyrus, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Robert Fielden, Norman; one sister and one brother, both of Searsboro , eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and other relatives including a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maude Meek, Carnegie.

Claude N. "C. N." Meek

C.N. Meek, 56, well known Caddo county farmer, was killed Thursday when his car fell on him at his home three miles north of town. Mr. Meek was under his car preparing to replace a rear spring and apparently was caught by the weight of the falling car when a supporting jack slipped out of place.

He was alone at the time and the tragedy was not known until his youngest son, Dale Lee, 15, returned from highschool at 4:30 p.m. It was not determined at what time of day the accident occurred.

A native of Hood county, Texas, Meek was born Dec. 22, 1889. He came to Oklahoma at an early age. He was married to Miss Myrtle Daniel at Cooperton Oct. 13, 1912. To them six children were born, four of whom survive.

The family came to Caddo county and for many years lived in the Crescent community where he had an active part in church, school and community improvement. Mrs. Meek died in 1944. He had bought the Holbrook farm north of town this year where he and Dale were living.

Final rites were held in the Harvey funeral home in Fort Cobb Sunday afternoon with Walter Teal, of the Mountain View Church of Christ in charge of the services. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery.

Survivors are his daughters, Mrs. Ethel Walker, Wichita, Kansas, and Mrs. Doris Edge, Fort Cobb; two sons, Clarence Meek, Wichita, and Dale Lee, Carnegie. Also three sisters, Mrs. Willie Johnson, Chickasha; Mrs. Myrtle Garrett, Kaw City, and Mrs. Ruby Housley of California, and three brothers, O.E. Meek of Mountain View, Jess of California and Guy of Fort Cobb.

Myrtle [Daniels] Meek

Services for Mrs. C.N. Meek Held At Fort Cobb March 8

Funeral services for Mrs. C.N. Meek were held in the Harvey Funeral hone at Ft. Cobb Wednesday of last week and burial was made in the Fort Cobb cemetery. Rev. Teal of Mountain view preached the funeral sermon.

A Tribute to Mrs. C.N. Meek

Myrtle Daniels Meek, formerly of Oak Grove community but who was living at Pawnee at the time of her death, was born at Cordell March 22, 1896, and died March 5, 1944.

She was married to C.N. Meek at Cooperton Oct. 13, 1912, and to this union six children were born, four surviving.

Her passing leaves a void for those who knew her that came never be filled.

Mrs. Meek was a true, loving wife, a devoted and wonderful mother and as a neighbor has was supreme, always responding in her kind sweet needy. She was a devout, consecrated Christian and a valiant community builder.

In her busy, active life she contacted people from all walks of life and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. It can truly be said that to know Mrs. Meek was to love her. Her wonderful influence and the memory of her noble life will long live in the hearts of all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, four children, Mrs. Sam Walker of St. Joseph, Mo., Clarence of Pawhuska and Doris and Dale Lee of the home address, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Katherine Elizabeth [Williams] Meek

Funeral services for Katherine Meek, 91, former longtime Fort Cobb resident, were held Monday, March 31, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Cobb with Rev. Joe Albrecht, pastor officiating. Eulogy was given by her granddaughter, Dr. Laura Kay Aguilar.

A private family memorial service was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday, March 28 at the French Mortuary.

Katherine was born march 29, 1911 at Redstone Mission near Washita to John D. and Nora [Baxter] Williams and died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She attended elementary and high school at Washita and graduated in 1929. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in 1929 and received a teaching certificate. She taught 33 years, most in the Fort Cobb School District. She received her B.S. degree from Oklahoma College for Women in 1951 and a master of teaching degree from Southwestern State College in 1968.

She married Marvin Joe Meek on April 21, 1933 and they lived in Fort Cobb all of their 69 years of marriage. She received her 50 year pin as a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Choir. She was also a member of the Fort Cobb Improvement Club.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Meek of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one daughter, Jo Kaye Highstrete of Santa Fe, New Mexico; tow grandchildren, Laura Kaye Aguilar and Major Clark Highstrete; three great granddaughters and one great grandson; six nieces and three nephews.

Burial was in the Fort Cobb Cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb-Hackney Funeral Home in Fort Cobb.
