2 Caddoans Are Killed In Car Crash

A Carnegie man and a woman from Albert were killed in a head-on- accident, three miles north of Oney Saturday night. Killed in the crash were Mrs. Barbara Alice Applewhite, 64, Albert, and William C. Johnson, 45, route 1, Carnegie.

Funeral services for Mrs. Applewhite were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Albert Christian church. Rites for Johnson were held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Fort Cobb funeral home chapel.

Mike Hellwege, highway patrolman, reported Johnson was killed instantly by the crash and Mrs. Applewhite died a few minutes later. The accident occurred when the two cars crashed head-on, while Johnson was traveling north and Mrs. Applewhite was traveling south. The point of contact was said to be six feet from the west edge of the pavement. Mrs. Applewhite's car was knocked back 14 feet by the impact.

Miss Jeanne Edwards, a granddaughter of Mrs. Applewhite and a passenger in her car, was seriously injured. She was given emergency treatment at an Anadarko hospital and later was transferred to a hospital in Oklahoma City.

Johnson had just left his mother's farm near Albert and was on his way home when the accident occurred. Mrs. Applewhite had taken some of her other grandchildren and their friends to a movie at Binger and was returning home when her car collided with Johnson's.
