John Edgar Finney Funeral Wednesday In Ft. Cobb Church

Fort Cobb, May 2--Services for John Edgar Finney, 79, were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist church. Officiating ministers were Rev. F.L. Farrington, Gracemont, and Rev. Leroy Meyer and Rev. Paul Head of Fort Cobb. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery under direction of the Harvey Funeral Home.

Finney died Sunday at his home after a short illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1872, at Paxico, Kan.

He was married to Olive Dickinson Dec. 30, 1896, at Vera, Kan.

The Finneys have lived in Fort Cobb since 1915. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Olive Finney of the home; three sons, W.D. and John, Fort Cobb, and Bill, Oklahoma City; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Dickinson, Fort Cobb; Mrs. Charles Madden, San Bernardino, Calif.; Mrs. Hallie Ferguson, Altus; Mrs. Susie Strowig, Wamego, Kan., and Mrs. Louise Miller, Emmett, Kan.; a brother, J.C. Finney, Salina, Kan., and five grandchildren.

Mr. Finney is an uncle of Mrs. Frank Scott of Carnegie. Mr. and Mrs. Scott attended the funeral.

Pioneer Fort Cobb Woman's Services Will Be Thursday

FORT COBB-Services for Mrs. J.E. Finney, pioneer resident of Fort Cobb who died Tuesday after a brief critical illness, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home. Rev. Claire Payette, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Ted Ewing, pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment will be in the Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb Funeral Home.

Mrs. Finney, the former Olive Dickinson, was born July 28, 1872 at Princeville, Ill.

She was married to John E. Finney on December 30, 1896, at Paxico, Kansas.

They came to Fort Cobb in December, 1908, then moved to Anadarko the following year. They returned to Fort Cobb in 1915.

She was a member of the Fort Cobb Methodist church.

Mrs. Finney died at her home Tuesday afternoon. Her body will lie in state until the services Thursday.

The family requested that no flowers be sent but that contributions be made to the church or to the Heart fund.

Survivors include three sons, W.D. and John of Fort Cobb and W.F. of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Christina Jeanette [Valenzuela] Finney

Christina Jeanette Finney, 23, passed away on Friday, January 10th, 2014 as a result of a car accident north of Fort Cobb.

She was born on January 10th, 1991 in Arcadia, California to Alfred and Karen [Silvera] Valenzuela.

She grew up in California before moving to Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.

She married Ryland Finney on November 19, 2010 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Moving to Oklahoma turned her into a Oklahoma farm girl. She loved to go with Ryland and feed the cattle and learned first hand how to brand a cow this spring.

She loved spending time with her family and friends and her beloved dog, Pickles. Christina enjoyed going to art museums, camping and fishing, the great outdoors and all animals. Christina worked at McDonald's and Pizza Hut where she made many friends and enjoyed working with her co-workers.

╨She is survived by:, Her husband, Ryland Finney, Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Her daughter, Izabella Faith Finney, of the home, Her step-daughter, Bentley Ratliff, Carnegie, Oklahoma, Her parents, Alfred and Karen Valenzuela, Coven, California, One sister: Elizabeth Valenzuela, Lancaster, California, Her father-in-law: Richard Finney and his wife, Vanda, of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Her mother-in-law: Belinda Vanzant and her husband, Mike, of Newcastle, Oklahoma╨Family memorial will be held at a later date. Visitation will begin on Sunday, January 12, 2014 thru Tuesday, January 14, 2014.
