Newton "Newt" Dickinson

Newt Dickinson Dies Suddenly Tuesday

Newt Dickinson, 76, pioneer state farmer and stockman and one time member of the state legislature, died at his home four miles west of Chickasha early Thursday morning from a sudden heart attack. Altho he had not been very active for some time he felt unusually good Monday and spent some time in Chickasha and a pleasant evening before retiring. He did not awaken after he was stricken.

Final rites will be held at the Fort Cobb Methodist church Thursday afternoon by R.E. Harvey and LeRoy Simmons and burial will be made in the Oak Grove cemetery at Fort Cobb, it is announced.

Born in Illinois May 3, 1865, Mr. Dickinson later lived in Kansas where he was married to Miss Mary Finney at Paxico May 27, 1889.

He is survived by his widow and four children, Mrs. Florence Pritchett, Fort Cobb; Mrs. Jas. Scott, Chickasha; Mrs. Frank Scott,m Alfalfa, and John T. Dickinson, Marionville, Mo. Also a sister, Mrs. J.E. Finney, Fort Cobb and other near relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Dickinson lived at Kingfisher one year before coming to Fort Cobb in 1901 and homesteading northeast of town. Later they bought a farm four miles north of Carnegie. They have lived at their present home west of Chickasha since 1922.

Pioneer County Woman Dies At Fort Cobb Home

Funeral services for Mrs. Newt Dickinson, Fort Cobb, mother of Mrs. Frank Scott and a former resident of the community north of Carnegie, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Cobb Baptist church. Rev. Claire Payette, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated assisted by Rev. Ted Ewing, Baptist minister. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Dickinson, 93 years of age, died Saturday night at her home in Fort Cobb after a lengthy illness. She had been critical many times during the past six months but had always rallied until the past few days.

She was born July 11, 1865, in Holmes County, Ohio.

In 1889 she married Newton Dickinson at Paxico, Kansas. They came to the Fort Cobb community in 1901, where they homesteaded a farm. They later moved to the Fairview community north of Carnegie, where they resided for several years before moving back to Fort Cobb.

Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Florence Pritchett, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include; one son, John Dickinson, Marionsville, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Scott of Carnegie and Mrs. Jim Scott of Verden; one sister, Mrs. Louise Miller, St. Marys, Kans.; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
