Erastus Averton Davis

Grandpa E.A. Davis died Friday. Services were held at the Christian church at 3 o'clock Saturday. Interment was made in the Fort Cobb cemetery.

Erastus Averton Davis was born September 5, 1854, in Jefferson county, Tennessee, died August 22, 1924, aged 69 years, 11 months and 17 days.

He was married to Miss Mary Noris Moore, at Newport, Tenn., February 28, 1875. To this union eight children were born, five of whom with the widow survive. The children are: Rosilee Goodwin of Ft. Cobb, Elizabeth Smedley of Tishomingo, Margaret Lucritia Sutton and Willie B. Davis of Carnegie, and Mrs. Pearl May Woodward of Texas.

Mr. Davis and his family moved from Tennessee to Texas 1892, moving from there to the then Indian Territory in 1896. He made his home in Oklahoma since.

Mr. Davis was not a member of any church but expressed his hope and faith in Jesus Christ.

John Henry Davis

Davis Funeral Set For 2:30 Thursday; Burial at Fort Cobb

J.H. Davis, 83, pioneer Oklahoman, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the home of his sons, Arnold and Oris Davis, near Marlow. Mr,. Davis had been in poor health for the past 16 months. Mr,. and Mrs,. Davis have been at the home of their sons since January.

Services will be at 2:30 Thursday in the Methodist church here with Brodace Elkins, minister, in charge. The Harvey Funeral home is in charge of arrangements,. Burial will be in the Fort Cobb cemetery.

John Henry Davis was born July 17, 1867, at Tremble, Dyer county, Tenn. He moved to Wise county, Texas in 1892.

He was married to Mattie Johnson in Wise county in 1893. Mrs. Davis died Sept. 19, 1899.

Mr. Davis came to Beckham county in this state in 1902 and in 1916 moved to a farm nine miles northeast of Carnegie.

He was married to Ella Mae Rudd June 15, 1921, at Chickasha.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis farmed in the community northeast of Carnegie until 1941 when they moved to town and have lived here since.

Mr. Davis was converted at an early age and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Later he joined the Methodist church and at the time of his death his membership was in the Methodist church here.

Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Ella Davis; three sons, Arnold and Oris of Marlow and James Thomas Davis, Touloume, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs., Ray Riley of Mountain View and Mrs. Randall Recker, St. Paul, Minn; a brother, Wm. Davis, Fort Worth, and a sister, Mrs,. Fannie Terrell, Marlow. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Both Mrs. Becker and James had been here visiting their father but had returned to their homes. Mrs. Becker left only Saturday after her father seemed to be improving.
