Soloman H Childers

Death made a visit to our community and called from our midst, S.H. Childers who died suddenly at the home of his son, H.P. Childers, Thursday at 4:45 o'clock. He was 77 years 8 months and 29 days old.

He leaves to mourn his death 3 sons; H.P. Childers, T.J. Childers of Carnegie and Roy Childers of Altus, also 4 daughters: Mrs. W.C. Hester, Fredrick, Mrs. A.P. Hill, Mtn. Park, Mrs. Will Jones and Mrs. J.C. Galey, Carnegie. All were present. Besides a host of grandchildren, relatives and friends.

His wife and three daughters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the H.P. Childers home Friday at 2 p.m. and interment was made in the Ft. Cobb cemetery.

Henry Pryor Childers

H.P. Childers Funeral Services Are Held Friday

Funeral services for Henry P. Childers, a retired farmer and resident of Carnegie since 1927, were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 23, at the Pitcher Funeral chapel. Loyd Hatfield, minister of the Church of Christ at Comanche and son-in-law of Childers, officiated. Rev. Carl M. Cartwright, local Methodist pastor, assisted. Burial was at Fort Cobb with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.

Childers died Wednesday, September 21, at the Carnegie hospital, which he entered August 22. He had been in ill health for a long time.

Henry Pryor Childers was born June 6, 1886, at Temple, Texas. He came to Oklahoma and on March 12, 1916 he was married to Grace Opal Hickerson at Grandfield. Four sons and two daughters were born to them. They farmed in the community northeast of Carnegie before moving into town.

He is survived by his wife of the home at 126 West Ash; two daughters, Mrs. Robert McPherson of Peck, Kans., and Mrs. Hatfield of Comanche; four sons, James H. of Penn Valley, Calif., Henry Pryor Jr. of Wichita, Louis C. of Oklahoma City, and Warren Leon of Loveland, Colo.; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. A.R. Hill of Orange Grove, Calif., and Mrs. W.C. Hester of Frederick, and several nieces and nephews.

Roy Cecil Childers

Funeral Services For Roy Childers Are Held Sunday

Funeral services for Roy C. Childers, farmer-stockman who lived north of Carnegie, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist church with Rev. Elson Hargrove, pastor, officiating. Rev. Gene Mathis, New Harmony Missionary Baptist church pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery with Masonic rites.

Childers, who had lived five and one-half miles north of town the past three years died Thursday at the Carnegie hospital after entering a few hours earlier. He had been in Ill health for sometime.

He was born January 13, 1902, at Holdenville. He was reared in the Grandfield, Okla., community and was married December 10, 1925, to Anna Lee Johnson at Frederick. They later made their home at Tulia, Texas, where he farmed and at Amarillo where he was affiliated with the Quarter Horse association, raised racing stock and ponies. He was manager of Quarter Horse sale ring in Amarillo for some time and was manager of Buffalo Lake near Amarillo for several years.

A Mason for many years, he was a member of Scottish Rite at El Paso and of Khiva Temple, Amarillo. He and his wife were active in the local Order of Eastern Star. She is worthy matron of the local chapter.

He is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Dale King, Houston, and Mrs. M. C. Rankin of Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Hester of Frederick and Mrs. Ray Hill of Orange Cove, Calif.; two brothers, H.P. of Carnegie, and Tom J. of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren and other relatives.

Pallbearers for the service were Pres Thornton, Doe Belase, Irvin Nix, Paul Bittle, Lorin Nix and Louis Haas.
