Harley Champion

Death Takes H. Champion

Funeral for Harley Champion, 80, who died Tuesday in a Carnegie hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Houk, minister, officiating.

Champion was born Dec. 6, 1894 at Springer. He came to the Walters-Grandfield area with his parents and was married to Mable Bentley Sept. 30, 1915 at Frederick. She died in Jan., 1974.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Fort Cobb Methodist church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. [Oliver] Robbie May Pinc, Lawton; one brother, Lester Champion, Colgate; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Rabie Champion

John R. Champion Services Thursday 3 P.M. in Fort Cobb

Services for John R. Champion, pioneer of the Crescent community northeast of Carnegie, were at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Christian church at Fort Cobb, with Rev. Leroy Meyers, pastor of the Baptist church, preaching the sermon.

Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery under direction of the Harvey Funeral Home. Champion died Tuesday of last week after a serious illness of two months. He suffered a stroke seven years ago and had been in poor health since.

Born at Gatesville, Texas, Mar. 10, 1886, Champion came to Oklahoma when he was a young man.

He was married to Agnes Rodgers July 12, 1910, at Lawton. They came to the Crescent community near Fort Cobb in 1916 and have made their home there since.

Champion joined the Christian church at Crescent as a young man and at the time of his death he held his membership with the Fort Cobb church.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Agnes Champion of the home; two sons, Ray of Anadarko and Wayne of Fort Cobb; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Seyfert, Loveland; Mrs. Evie Johnsey, Geronimo, and Mrs. Lorene Whitworth, Fort Cobb, and five brothers, Morris, Grandfield; Ross, Geronimo; Sherman and Harley, Fort Cobb, and Lester, Coalgate. All were present for the funeral.

Sherman D. Champion

Services Are Held At Fort Cobb For S.D. Champion

FORT COBB -- Sherman D. Champion, a farmer on Route 2, Fort Cobb, died at the home of his brother, Harley Champion in Fort Cobb at 8 a.m. Sunday. He had been ill about a year.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Fort Cobb Methodist church with Rev. Claire Payette officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Champion was born January 18, 1898, at Wynnewood. He came to Caddo county to the Fort Cobb community in 1925. He was a member of the Christian church.

Survivors include four brothers, Morris of Grandfield, Ross of Lawton, Harley, Fort Cobb and Lester, Coalgate; several nephews and nieces including Mrs. Orval Whitworth, Carnegie.
