Anna Mae "Ann" [Westervelt] Vail
November 18, 1919 ~ September 1, 2014


Anna Mae “Ann” Vail of Apache, OK was born November 18, 1919 in Norman, OK to Zay Kimberly and Evelyn [Hayes] Westervelt. She passed away September 1st in Lawton, OK at the age of 94.

She attended Norman schools for twelve years, graduating from Norman High School in 1937.

She married James Eugene Vail June 30, 1939 in Norman, OK. He preceded her in death February 3, 2005.

They lived in Norman for several years running a dairy before moving to Apache in 1947 when James began farming with his dad.

She was a member of McFarlin Memorial Methodist Church in Norman until moving her membership to the 1st United Methodist Church in Apache. She has been a faithful member ever since. She was a member of the Crusader’s Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women where she served as treasurer for many years. The organization back when she joined the church was called Women’s Society of Christian Service [W.S.C.S.]. She was a lifetime member of this organization.

She was a longstanding member of the GFWC Apache Study Club where she currently held honorary membership.

In 2012, she was named and Apache Town Treasure by the Apache Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.

Survivors include: Her son and his wife - Richard and Betty Vail Apache; Daughter-in-law - Patty Vail Henryetta, OK; 6 grandchildren - Brent and wife, Diane Vail; Bryan and wife, Lori Vail; Todd and wife, Melissa Vail; Amy and husband, Tommy Ferguson; Robin and husband, Bruce Lollis; Mike Vail; 11 great-grandchildren - Jason Vail, Colby Vail, Haley Vail, Natasha Vail, Taylor Vail, Austin Vail, Abby Vail, Ty Ferguson, Allie Ferguson, Keaton Lollis, Kellyn Lollis;6 great-great grandchildren - Daylee Vail, Madisyn Vail, Vance Vail, Brent James Silverhorn, Westin Aldridge, Ayden Aldridge; Many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by: Her parents; Her husband, James Vail; Her son, Jerry Vail; Mother and father in-law, Gene and Maggie Vail; 4 brothers - Doyle Westervelt, Gene Westervelt, Erwin “Bub” Westervelt, Jewel Westervelt; 2 sisters - Myrl Goodwin, Nadine Smith.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 4th at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Stinnett officiating and assisted by Rev. Bud Jones.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.

Betty Jane [Doyle] Vail
February 19, 1941 ~ June 2, 2020


Betty Jane Vail, of Apache, was born February 19, 1941, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Edward Basil Doyle and Clara Jewell [Hewes] Bruce. She passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, in Oklahoma City. She was 79 years old.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2020, from 9:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Crews Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 5, at 2:00 P.M. at the Apache First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lory Fahle officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.

Betty was crowned Apache's first homecoming queen in 1957. She married Richard Lee Vail on June 1, 1959. They raised four children – Brent, Bryan, Todd and Amy.

She received a Bachelor's degree from Cameron University and worked as an RN for 35 years at Southwestern Medical Center and training at Reynolds Army Hospital. In 1996 she was named Employee of the Year. Betty was the Grand Marshall in the Apache parade. She was a member of the Sewing Club and was also the 2017 Town Treasurer. She loved Broadway and was a season ticket holder. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She loved watching her children and grandchildren when they were playing in sports. She loved her family dearly.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; children: Brent Vail of Apache; Bryan and wife Lori Vail of Apache; Todd and wife Melissa Vail of Apache; Amy and husband Tommy Ferguson of Lindsay; grandchildren: Natasha Vail, Taylor Vail, Jason Vail, Colby Vail, Haley Vail, Abby Vail, Austin Vail, Ty Ferguson, Allie Ferguson; great grandchildren: Daylee Vail, Madi Vail, Vance Vail, Brent Silverhorn, Westin Aldridge, Aiden Aldridge, Beau Aldridge; and sisters: Ann and husband Bill Nunn of Apache; Rose Marie and husband Denny Hopkins of Norman; Jackie and Mike Love of Cyril.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Vail, Austin Vail, Ty Ferguson, Brent Silverhorn, Colby Vail, and Vance Vail.
